Milan, Italy, is often called the “fashion capital of the world” due to its rich history in fashion and design. After all, it is the place where some of the world’s most famous fashion brands, like Armani, Prada, and Versace, were born.

Considering all of this, it isn’t a surprise that Milan is full of shopping districts that will wake up a shopaholic, even those tourists who don’t like to shop much when traveling. Here are the ones you should definitely check out the next time you’re there.

Quadrilatero Della Moda

If you are looking for luxury brands and high-end shopping, Quadrilatero della Moda should be your first destination. Most big fashion houses have a store or a retail outlet in the area, including previously mentioned Milan-based brands, other famous Italian fashion names, and foreign fashion staples like Chanel, Burberry, and Ralph Lauren.

Corso Buenos Aires

Corso Buenos Aires offers a good mix of luxury stores, charming boutiques, and trendy fashion shops. It is considered less expensive than Quadrilatero della Moda, so if you are not looking to spend much but still want to get some quality things, this is the place. As a bonus, the district has plenty of restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy authentic Italian food.

Corso Porta Ticinese

Finally, for streetwear, vintage fashion, and unique clothing items, head to Corso Porta Ticinese. Here, you’ll find both popular brands like Adidas and Vans as well as small alternative brands and independently owned businesses.

If you are looking for a fashion-inspired trip, then Milan, Italy, should be on top of your wish list. The city is home to some of the biggest fashion brands, like Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, and Versace, while Milan Fashion Week is one of the most prominent fashion events in the world. On top of that, Milan also has plenty of fashion museums you can visit to learn more about the city’s rich fashion history. Here are the best of them.

Armani Silos

As its name suggests, Armani Silos is dedicated to the legendary luxury fashion house Armani. The museum was established in 2016 to celebrate 40 years of Giorgio Armani’s work. The museum showcases Armani’s most memorable designs while also telling the brand’s story through clothes displays, images, and videos.

Fondazione Prada

Fondazione Prada is a unique place as it is not entirely dedicated to fashion despite being founded by Prada’s head designer Miuccia Prada. While fashion exhibits serve as an important part of Fondazione Prada’s program, the facility also offers space for all sorts of contemporary art while aiming to promote new ideas and ways of thinking.

Palazzo Morando

Fashion and architecture come together at Palazzo Morando. The venue itself is an 18th-century palace that kept most of its original interior and exterior elements. It is also home to multiple permanent and temporary exhibits on Milanese fashion from the 17th century until today.

If you’re thinking of taking a vacation to Europe but only have a limited time, you’ll want to plan ahead to be able to make the most of your trip. Italy is a beautiful country rich in history and culture and certainly has no shortage of cities worth seeing. Here are our suggestions for how to spend seven days in Bel Paese.

Start in Milan

As Milan is one of the northernmost cities in Italy and is the home to an international airport, it makes sense to plan it as your starting point. Spend a day or two in the city and check out the Duomo di Milano Cathedral and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II for some of the world’s best shopping.

Stop in Verona

Most known as the setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Verona is a quaint and picturesque town just over an hour from Milan by train. The city is home to a 1st-century Roman Amphitheater where events are still often hosted. A statue of Juliet located outside what is rumored to have been her family’s house is also worth a visit. Touching it is believed to bring the visitor luck!

Head to Venice

One hour from Verona by train, Venice is a port city on Italy’s eastern coast. While it is full of unique shops and restaurants, Venice isn’t very big and can definitely be explored and enjoyed for much of what it has to offer in one or two days. Be sure to check out some of the blown glass shops, which the city is known for.

End in Florence

Wrap up your trip with a few days in Florence, the capital of Italy’s Tuscany region. From here you can take daily tours of local vineyards in the countryside, or if you prefer to stay in the city, be sure to visit the Duomo or some of the many art galleries.

Do you see yourself as a hardcore shopper? Do you live and breathe fashion? You may want to consider stopping by these cities, if you haven’t yet. Sure, you can go to your local mall and enjoy all of the various clothing items they have to offer, but you’ll be missing out on so much. If you’re looking to go where the big names in fashion thrive, check out these cities.

Manhattan, New York

There’s no doubt that Manhattan is the number one place to go if you’re looking for something to wear. World-class designers flock from all over the world to this shopping hub, hoping to have their products sold in its quarters. From Saks Fifth Avenue to Times Square, New York City is the place to be when it comes to fashion.

Paris, France

While certainly not as big as New York City, Paris more than makes up for it with class, elegance, and artistry when it comes to fashion. After all, there’s a reason that French people are known for their style—it’s immersed plainly throughout their culture.

Milan, Italy

When people think of European style, the style they’re thinking of usually is connected to Italy in some shape or form. Similar to that of Paris, Milan is one of the leading fashion hubs in the world, and a major hotspot for designers.

Italy has long been a favored travel destination for tourists looking to experience art, history, food, and beaches. Over the years, there have been a few movies shot on location that have made travelers want to experience all the wonders of this country. If you want to get inspired to visit Italy, check these out.

Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)

Based on a true story, the film Under the Tuscan Sun is about author Frances Mayes’ decision to uproot herself from New York City after a bad divorce. It gave audiences an inside look at Tuscany, the many olive trees, and all of the old villas just waiting to be renovated. If you’ve been thinking about renting an old villa and summering in Italy then you should watch this film.

I Am Love (2009)

Instead of being set in the countryside, I Am Love takes place in the city of Milan. The film follows the fictional Recchi family and their opulent homes all over Italy. This will make you want to wander around the fashion capital, and summer on an estate.

Call Me By Your Name (2017)

No Italian movie list would be complete without the romantic drama Call Me By Your Name. The film is set in the Lombardy region, and it gives audiences a view of small Italian towns, an old villa, and of course, the romance that permeates Italy itself.

You’re probably going to want to venture here with a significant other after watching these films.

When it comes to fashion, certain cities around the world are known as fashion capitals, as they are where trends are born and Fashion Weeks take place. Fashionistas have to visit these fashion capitals at least once in their lifetime.

Paris

Parisians are known for having great style, and it comes as no surprise that some of the biggest names in fashion—including Christian Louboutin, Hubert de Givenchy, Christian Dior, and Yves Saint Laurent—hail from France. The Paris Fashion Week is one of the best ones, and the top designers show their collections twice a year.

New York

In the U.S., New York is the fashion destination, and it’s also known for having some of the best fashion schools in the world. Twice a year, designers from all over the world head to New York—including New Yorkers, Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford, and Donna Karan—to show off their newest creations.

London

It’s no wonder designers Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Christopher Kane, and Stella McCartney hail from the UK, as the top fashion schools in the world—including Central Saint Martins and the London College of Fashion—are in the British capital. London Fashion Week, which is held twice a year, is also a must-see.

Milan

Accessories make an outfit—and no city does bags, sunglasses, watches, and shoes better than Milan. Milan has a Fashion Week twice a year, and the city is home to Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Gianni Versace, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana (Dolce & Gabbana), and Miuccia Prada.

Every region has a dish that sparks the argument of who makes it better. In Milan, this argument is sparked by gelato.

The best time to research the matter is the dead of summer, because it would take a very special product to make people queue out in the blistering heat. When it comes to being worth a 20-minute queue in the sun even in June, it is essential to mention “Il Massimo del Gelato.”

The place prides itself on a wide range of quality ingredients. Walking in reveals the colors, textures, and flavors of gelato presented at lush swirls in their containers. These include fruity flavors alongside an array of ten or more shades of chocolate. The standout chocolate flavor is the Azteco: cinnamon and hot pepper delight.

You’ll need to get to Gerusalemme area; but don’t worry, it’s worth the trip. Then, of course, you stand in line before you can collect your number and move on to select your ice cream. We recommend going with friends and bringing along some cold water to keep it sweet and cool even before gelato.

Complement the experience by enjoying your gelato while walking around the produce and flower market around the corner from Il Massimo.

It comes as no surprise that this city is home to vertical gardens, also known as the Library of Trees. This place is open for 24 hours, and it’s a park that’s open to everyone who wants to sit down and take a break from the crazy city life.
