Sardi’s is one of the most iconic restaurants in NYC’s Theater District, and it deserves all the attention coming its way. You’ll come here to check out the famous caricatures of Broadway stars lining the walls, but you’ll end up sticking around for the delicious classics of American cuisine on its menu.
Joe Allen became a theatre industry institution over the years, serving as a meeting place for working actors, theater staff, and fans. It will win you over with its poster wall honoring Broadway flops and its signature American comfort food menu.

]]>If you’re without transportation, chances are you’re going to try and hail a cab or Uber to take you wherever you need to go. The good news is, there’s a system in place at the airport that sets you up with an official yellow taxi driver of New York City, as long as you wait in the right line. The bad news is, there are many other drivers who may try to swindle you into a ride for much more money.
If you’re a tourist, you may not know that the cheapest and best option is to wait in the official taxi cab line. These separate private drivers lurk around and pounce on you, knowing that you don’t really know how things work. They’ll sway you into hopping in their car, but their fare will be considerably more expensive than that of a yellow cab. Whatever you do, don’t get convinced to go with them. Not only are the official yellow cabs much cheaper, but they get you there in the exact same amount of time!

]]>This is one of the most popular hikes in the New York City area, and it’s totally understandable why! If you love a challenging (and adrenaline-inducing) hike, this one is great. A steep climb is totally worth the picturesque views from the top!
The Bear Mountain Loop Trail is another favorite in the area, although this one is considered more moderately challenging. You can even bring your dog, as long as it stays on a leash.
The Old Croton Aqueduct Trail is much more of a stroll than a hike, but it doesn’t make it any less beautiful! You can jog, walk, push a stroller, or bike along this trail that leads to a beautiful historical landmark.
Located in Harriman State Park, the Pine Meadow Lake trail is a great way to experience upstate New York without going too far out of the city! It has great views of the water and a moderately challenging path to keep you entertained.

]]>If you got a shiver down your spine, you’re not the only one. But one man has realised how lucrative the critters can be.
Rats have become somewhat synonymous with the Big Apple. It was only a few years ago that one of the rodents went viral for carrying a slice of pizza down the subway steps. The infestation became even worse during the pandemic, with health inspectors recording 60,000 incidents last year, prompting the appointment of a “rat czar” to get rid of them.
But not before tourists can have their own experience.
“Rats are like a New York City mascot. People want to see it for themselves,” says Kenny Bollwerk who leads the free walking tours. They take place late at night near Rockefeller Center and in Flushing and Sunnyside, Queens.
For those who can’t make it in person, Bollwerk typically live-streams the rat exploration on TikTok. It is not uncommon for him to receive 10,000 viewers at a time on what has become known as RatTok.
We think we might just stick to Times Square.

]]>Although the concept has been excellent for tourists, it has made life difficult for residents who are unable to find affordable housing as a result.
With hosts choosing to use apartments and houses as Airbnbs, it creates a shortage of places for locals to live, and greatly increases the cost of rent.
In 2022, New York City passed the Short-Term Rental Registration Law. According to the new rules, which come into effect in July, hosts must register with the mayor’s office, disclose who else lives on the property, and agree to comply with other city codes.
Airbnb has now chosen to challenge this and filed a lawsuit against the city on June 1.
Referring to the restrictions as an “extreme and oppressive regulatory scheme,” the San Francisco-based company claims that it is “intended to drive the short-term rental trade out of New York City once and for all.”
Mayoral spokesperson, Jonah Allon, has said that “administration is committed to protecting safety and community liveability for residents, preserving permanent housing stock, and ensuring our hospitality sector can continue to recover and thrive.”

]]>Each year, thousands of people travel to the Asian island for the Sakura season when cherry blossoms begin to bloom. It is viewed as a time of renewal and optimism. Not everyone has the means to visit Japan, but NYC is entering the sakura game and is offering visitors a chance to catch the blossoms in full bloom.
The Central Park Conservancy has launched an interactive map that tracks when each area of trees is pre-peak, at peak, or post-peak bloom.
The famous park, which measures 843 acres, features 4 types of cherry trees. There is the deep pink Kwanzan, the white Yoshino, Okame which is rosy pink, and the classic Higan which is known for its combination of pink and white.
According to the map, the Okame blossoms on the west side of the reservoir have already reached their peak. You can find them along Mid-Park at 86th-96th Streets.
The Conservancy expects the other trees to bloom soon due to the warmer-than-usual weather.
