]]> When the weather outside resembles the inside of a snow globe, you know it’s time to hit the slopes. Ski season typically lasts between late November and early April when all lifts and runs tend to be open, making it one of the busiest vacation periods.

Following the pandemic, more U.S. residents are planning to visit ski resorts this winter than ever before. That is according to the latest findings from Vacasa’s 2022 Holiday and Winter Travel Trends report. Of the 53% intending to travel, 30% are headed to ski destinations, which is 12% more than last year.

There was not much surprise when it came to where travelers are venturing, with Steamboat Springs in Colorado; Breckenridge also in Colorado; Montana’s Big Sky; Park City, Utah; and Sugar Mountain in North Carolina being named as the top spots. That said, 44% revealed that the deciding factor when choosing their destination is the price of the place’s passes and rentals. 

After two years of limited travel, people are clearly eager to make this year count, with 71% of winter travelers having already booked their holiday travel, winter (non-holiday) trip, or both. So if you’re planning a ski trip, why not check one of these places out?

The Netflix film stars Lindsay Lohan in her first role in 3 years as she plays an heiress who loses her memory in a skiing accident. The backdrop is a picturesque lodge where love blossoms between her and the owner played by Chord Overstreet. 

While it may be pushing it to think that we, too, could fall from the ski slopes and be nursed back to health by a handsome widower, it is possible to visit the location where the movie was shot.

The Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley in Park City, Utah served as the scene for the flick’s Northstar Lodge. The resort opened in 1982 and was named after Norwegian skier, Stein Eriksen. Over the years, it has been heralded as the Best Ski Hotel in the United States multiple times at the World Ski Awards. 

Aside from the slopes, guests are able to enjoy a state-of-the-art spa, complete with a sauna and fitness center; an arcade; cinema; coffee bar; restaurant; and a wine cellar with more than 19,000 bottles.

It is also well known for its luxury accommodations and Michelin-starred restaurants. 

Chamonix, France

Europe’s tallest peak at 4,800 meters makes Chamonix an iconic ski location. The mountain’s altitudes and the glaciers surrounding the area have a cooling effect that preserves the snow, ensuring some of the best snow conditions around. Not to mention that it was the first ever site of the Winter Olympics. 

St Moritz, Switzerland 

Top-class ski slopes can be found here, with the Winter Olympics being held in 1928 and 1984. You will often see competitions on its ‘Olympic Ski Jump.’ However, take your time; there is also plenty of ski terrain for non-professionals. St Moritz is known to have some of the longest intermediate ski runs, making it the perfect location for all levels.

Ski Clothes

Just in case you may have forgotten, it is cold at ski resorts, so be sure to pack warm clothes! Layering is the best way to stay warm, but opt for thinner material so you don’t feel weighed down while zipping along the slopes. Thermal underwear is a good idea, as are fleece-lined leggings. An insulated jacket or vest is essential.

Accessories

Have you heard of heated gloves? If not, they’re about to become your new besties. Invest in a pair to keep your hands toasty, especially when navigating those hills. As most heat escapes through our heads, get yourself a beanie that can fit underneath your helmet. 

Equipment

A helmet is the most important piece of equipment on the list as this is what will keep your head and neck safe in the event that you crash. A good pair of goggles will ensure that your vision stays clear amidst all the fog and snow.

]]> When the weather outside resembles the inside of a snow globe, you know it’s time to hit the slopes. Ski season typically lasts between late November and early April when all lifts and runs tend to be open, making it one of the busiest vacation periods.

Following the pandemic, more U.S. residents are planning to visit ski resorts this winter than ever before. That is according to the latest findings from Vacasa’s 2022 Holiday and Winter Travel Trends report. Of the 53% intending to travel, 30% are headed to ski destinations, which is 12% more than last year.

There was not much surprise when it came to where travelers are venturing, with Steamboat Springs in Colorado; Breckenridge also in Colorado; Montana’s Big Sky; Park City, Utah; and Sugar Mountain in North Carolina being named as the top spots. That said, 44% revealed that the deciding factor when choosing their destination is the price of the place’s passes and rentals. 

After two years of limited travel, people are clearly eager to make this year count, with 71% of winter travelers having already booked their holiday travel, winter (non-holiday) trip, or both. So if you’re planning a ski trip, why not check one of these places out?

]]> It’s that time of year again, when holiday movies make us want to abandon our daily lives and move to a quaint town in America where we’ll fall in love with a handsome stranger. This year, our inspiration comes from Falling for Christmas. 

The Netflix film stars Lindsay Lohan in her first role in 3 years as she plays an heiress who loses her memory in a skiing accident. The backdrop is a picturesque lodge where love blossoms between her and the owner played by Chord Overstreet. 

While it may be pushing it to think that we, too, could fall from the ski slopes and be nursed back to health by a handsome widower, it is possible to visit the location where the movie was shot.

The Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley in Park City, Utah served as the scene for the flick’s Northstar Lodge. The resort opened in 1982 and was named after Norwegian skier, Stein Eriksen. Over the years, it has been heralded as the Best Ski Hotel in the United States multiple times at the World Ski Awards. 

Aside from the slopes, guests are able to enjoy a state-of-the-art spa, complete with a sauna and fitness center; an arcade; cinema; coffee bar; restaurant; and a wine cellar with more than 19,000 bottles.

Sapporo, Japan

Sapporo, capital of the Hokkaido region of Japan, has a yearly Snow Festival which makes it a perfect winter destination. During this festival, artists create giant sculptures entirely of snow that you can view. You can also go to the local Sapporo beer brewery which produces one of the most popular Japanese beers, walk around the Christmas-lit parks, and go skiing.

Lake Bled, Slovenia

This lake is especially beautiful in winter, reflecting the surrounding snowy mountains and pine greenery. You can stay in the small town on the island in the middle of the lake, where a famous church which is said to bring good luck to married couples rests. You can also ski and discover the surrounding natural water and rock formations.

Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina

This glacial national park houses one of the very last glaciers which is still growing. You can visit, take a boat tour for a bigger view, or climb in its ice caves at the northern end.
