If you’re a passionate museum dweller visiting Toronto, you’ll have to cash out a lot of money to visit its top museums. Admission prices tend to be pretty high, but there are ways you can visit the leading museums in this Canadian metropolis free of charge.

Museum of Contemporary Art

Art lovers visiting Toronto must make time for the Museum of Contemporary Art, and you don’t even have to spend a dime to do so if you show up at the right time. The ground floor can be visited free of charge, but you can also check out the rest of the collection for free on the first Sunday of each month—just make sure to pre-book your ticket!

Art Gallery of Ontario

A visit to Toronto is incomplete if you fail to check out the largest art gallery it has in store. The Art Gallery of Ontario is still staying true to its long-standing tradition of opening its door for free, every Wednesday from 6-9 pm. The free tickets are usually released on Monday and you have to book them online so you wouldn’t lose your spot.

Gardiner Museum

Gardiner Museum is a privately owned museum with around 4,000 pieces of ceramic art on its premises. It’s also open to the public every Wednesday, between 4-9 pm. Students, children, and friends of the museum can visit it free of charge at any time.

Toronto is home to many museums that celebrate the history and art of Canada, but some of its most interesting and unusual cultural institutions are actually dedicated to tiny curiosities that would never cross your mind.

Bata Shoe Museum

You probably adore shoes, but have you ever considered going to a museum dedicated to your favorite fashion accessory? This is the only museum in North America dedicated to the history of footwear, and it features a huge collection of over 13,500 items.

Museum of Illusions

The Museum of Illusions franchise is expending all over the world, and Toronto is currently one of three North American cities with a branch of their own – and the only one in Canada. If you’re in the mood for an immersive experience (and a great photo op) this is a place to be.

Gardiner Museum

If you’re an old soul looking for a place where you’re going to feel at home, Gardiner Museum is the perfect fit. It features one of the most impressive collections of ceramic art in the entire world, and many of the pieces are owned by its founders George and Helen Gardiner.
