If you ever find yourself on an African safari, you’ll notice how unique the trees are throughout your journey. They vary from really thin trunks to possibly the thickest tree trunks you’ve ever seen. Even if you can’t make it to Africa, it’s great to see some natural beauty from around the world, so here are some of the most beautiful trees found in Africa.

Baobab Tree

One of the most iconic trees of Africa are the Baobab trees. Found throughout the continent, they are definitely one of the most unique trees in the world. What makes this tree so unique is its enormously thick trunks. Especially when you compare the trunk to the leaves and branches, it just seems unnatural, but it totally is natural! During the summer they even produce large white flowers!

Dragon Blood Trees

Another super unique tree you’ll find along the Arabian Sea is the Dragon Blood Tree. It’s named after the super red color of the sap that the tree produces. Besides the color of the sap, this tree is unique in shape and looks. Shaped like an umbrella, you can see the underside of all the branches because leaves only grow at the top!

If you love getting out into nature, then you probably prefer to factor nature into your travel plans. Forests are a wonderful destination for hiking, picnicking, birdwatching, and more. They are well worth a trip in and of themselves, but they also are often accessible from nearby cities and provide a great escape from the hustle and bustle. Here are some of the most beautiful to consider for your next trip.

Monteverde, Costa Rica

Costa Rica’s forests are some of the most amazing in the world, especially the cloud forests of the Monteverde region. So named because they are misty (“cloudy”) year-round, these forests are a great place for intrepid explorers looking to completely leave society behind. Well, not completely. You can find evidence of humanity there in the form of bridges, ziplines, and trails.

Batang Ai National Park, Borneo

This area of Borneo is just one of many covered in rainforests, but it’s a particularly interesting one because you can visit the villages of the native Iban people who live in traditional longhouses and teach about their culture. There is also a recently-created reservoir on which you can take a longboat cruise.

Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Japan

This forest of tall, thin bamboo stalks is located in Kyoto and is a beautiful refuge from the densely populated cities. The view is like nothing else on earth, with the light just penetrating the soaring tree trunks and guiding you along the path.

Chances are that trees are probably not on your list of must-visit spots in the world. However, these ancient trees are so old, extraordinary, and iconic that they actually attract tourists from all over the world. Here are four famous trees from around the world that are definitely worth a visit.

General Sherman, USA

To see the largest tree in the world you’ll have to visit the Giant Forest, located in the Sequoia National Park in California. This giant tree is 275 feet tall and over 36 feet in diameter, which makes it a giant among all other trees in this forest.

Boab Tree, Australia

The iconic Boab tree that was once used as a lockup for indigenous Australian prisoners is located near Derby in Western Australia. This large tree is 1500 years old and it’s hollow inside.

Arbol del Tule, Mexico

It’s estimated that this impressive tree is between 1,500 and 3,000 years old, which is why many people believe it’s one of the oldest in the world. Arbol del Tule stands tall in a churchyard in a town called Santa Maria del Tul in Mexico.

The Major Oak, United Kingdom

The Major Oak in Sherwood Forest is an ancient giant and one of the most iconic trees in the world that is also around 1000 years old.

The world is home to a great variety of flora if you know where to look. Here is a guide to five of the most interesting trees to be found across the globe for any nature lovers out there.

Rainbow Eucalyptus, Philippines

At first glance, this tree appears to have been painted all the colors of the rainbow. Native to the Philippines, its bark slowly peels off to reveal a burst of color from bright greens and blues through to a deep purple.

Chapel Oak, France

This 800-year-old tree was struck by lighting and its enormous trunk converted into two chapels in the 1600s. A staircase winds up the center of the tree to give access to the second chapel, where mass is celebrated twice per year.

Jabuticaba, Brazil

The round, black fruit of this unusual tree grows up its trunk giving the impression that the plant has oily scales.

The Boab Prison Tree, Western Australia

The trunk of this 1500-year-old Boab tree, 14 meters in circumference, was converted into a prison cell for housing prisoners on their way into the Australian town of Derby.

Pennantia Baylisiana, New Zealand

Found in the Three Kings Islands off of the north coast of New Zealand, this tree is remarkable as it is the only known example of its kind in the world.

Türkenschanzpark

Located on the outskirts of Vienna, this park is of great botanical and landscaping importance. It was built between 1885 and 1888, but was later remodelled by the City of Vienna in 1892. The pond was added, and in the following years, the park was significantly expanded. Today, it is known for its collection of rare botanical plants, and a picturesque landscape, which is one of the park’s most appealing features, with numerous hills, meadows and meandering paths. This park is ideal if you want to spend a relaxing day surrounded by nature in the middle of the city.

Volksgarten

Volksgarten is a public park in the first district of Vienna. The park was built over the city fortifications that were destroyed by Napoleon in 1809. The plans for the garden were made in 1821 by Ludwig Remy. Originally, it was supposed to be a private garden for aristocracy, but the plan was soon abandoned and instead, on March 1st of 1823, it was opened as the first public park in the city. Its most impressive feature, for which Volksgarten is the most famous today, is the rose garden, with over 3,000 rose bushes and 400 different varieties of roses. It is best visited in spring or summer when all the roses are in bloom.

Rathauspark

Rathauspark is a city park designed for Viennese residents in 1863 by city gardener Dr. Rudolf Siebeck, under the commission of Emperor Franz Joseph. It was opened in 1873, when the north section near the University and the south section close to the Parliament were completed. The two sections are almost symmetrical, divided by a wide square and an avenue leading to the City Hall. The square is used for many events and festivities throughout the year, such as the traditional Christmas market, winter ice skating rink and summer outdoor cinema. Whenever you decide to visit Vienna, there will always be something happening here.
