There are many reasons that people like to travel the world, and we’re the last ones to go ahead and tell you how you do it. Heck, go knock yourself out and do you. But if you’re in the mood to hear our two cents, we do believe that there’s a lot of merit to what we’re saying. So here it is: when you travel to a country that’s known for its art and history—don’t forget about visiting nature too.

Don’t Get Distracted

When traveling to countries that are known for their beautiful nature, such as Peru or Bolivia, it makes sense that you’d go out of your way to embark on hikes and whatnot. But when it comes to particularly European countries such as Italy or France, with all of their museums, history, and culture—it can be very easy to get distracted.

Don’t get us wrong, there’s nothing wrong with soaking up the history and art of a town—but take some town to explore the countryside of these places as well, because you’ll get to know things about them that you wouldn’t have otherwise. For instance, the Tuscany countryside is absolutely gorgeous, and you’d certainly benefit from its colorful and endless vistas. The same can be said for so many other amazing countries, so don’t sleep on it!

Italy has long been a favored travel destination for tourists looking to experience art, history, food, and beaches. Over the years, there have been a few movies shot on location that have made travelers want to experience all the wonders of this country. If you want to get inspired to visit Italy, check these out.

Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)

Based on a true story, the film Under the Tuscan Sun is about author Frances Mayes’ decision to uproot herself from New York City after a bad divorce. It gave audiences an inside look at Tuscany, the many olive trees, and all of the old villas just waiting to be renovated. If you’ve been thinking about renting an old villa and summering in Italy then you should watch this film.

I Am Love (2009)

Instead of being set in the countryside, I Am Love takes place in the city of Milan. The film follows the fictional Recchi family and their opulent homes all over Italy. This will make you want to wander around the fashion capital, and summer on an estate.

Call Me By Your Name (2017)

No Italian movie list would be complete without the romantic drama Call Me By Your Name. The film is set in the Lombardy region, and it gives audiences a view of small Italian towns, an old villa, and of course, the romance that permeates Italy itself.

You’re probably going to want to venture here with a significant other after watching these films.

During the 16th century, many farmers in Tuscany started to grow grapes and produce wine. However, at the time, selling the wine was much more difficult than today for three main reasons: first, the land where the grapes were growing didn’t belong to the farmers but rather to the rich landlords who taxed the wine selling. Moreover, a set of regulations were installed that burdened the farmer and made the selling of wine not economical. A third reason was that epidemics were quite common at the time, making the selling dangerous for the winemakers.

The solution the local winemakers found was absolutely brilliant. They have created a small hole in the wall from which they can sell the wine while protecting their identity and limiting contact with the buyers.

Today there are around 267 “wine windows” in Tuscany, most of them in the city of Florence. These became once again popular lately with the spread of Covid-19. The restaurants in Florence were forced to close during the pandemic, but the 16th century solution was proved useful once again, allowing the wine sellers to continue running their business.

Welcome to la dolce vita! Italy, the best place for good gelato, hot cappuccino, homemade pasta and freshest wine! There are so many different islands and cities to explore in this beautiful country and every place offers different views, history, food and culture. Read through our small guide on where to definitely go!

Florence

The cradle of the Renaissance, Florence is one of Europe’s great art cities. There’s so much exquisite art and architecture, it’s difficult to know where to start. But Florence is also a living city with a vibrant restaurant and nightlife scene. Filled with handsome, historic shops and quality crafts, getting lost in this magical city is a must.

Venice

Venice never loses its capacity to mesmerize. There’s a reason why it’s popular: It is an exquisite city that is miraculously built on water. It’s important to remember that, even at peak visitor times, you are never more than a bridge and an alley away from a more secluded city, full of secret pathways, handsome squares and lively neighborhood wine bars. No matter what season you visit, the churches and museums are always open to the public but there is also a vibrant contemporary art scene that is starting to grow.

Tuscany

Probably the richest in culture, in Tuscany, its history and culture are at the root of everything. Tuscany has so many historic towns with more than enough to see, do, eat and drink to fill a long weekend.

Amalfi Coast

An insanely beautiful rugged stretch of coastline between Sorrento and Ravello, the Amalfi Coast is like nowhere else in the world. With its deep bays that protect the towns and villages along the way, it is the glamorous and compelling go-to summertime destination in Europe, with breathtaking views, amazing food and beautiful people. On top of that, the hotels along the way live up to their surroundings with ease. Many of them are family-run, sometimes for generations!

Sardinia

Sardinia has some of the Mediterranean’s most seductive beaches, yet within close distance of some great restaurants, agreeable bars and the calming evening rituals. When you’ve had enough of beaches, there’s plenty more to divert you: the magnificent landscapes, the fabulous seafood and, for history lovers, the Carthaginian and Roman ruins, Pisan churches and Spanish Baroque.
