]]>Sea Organ is one of Zadar’s top tourist attractions, and it has to be seen (and heard!) to be believed. It’s an architectural marvel and a giant experimental musical instrument wrapped into one, with a staircase and tubes built beneath it, allowing it to play the music by way of the sea waves.
This historic pillar looks pretty harmless today, but it used to strike fear into the heart of locals in the Middle Ages. It was once used as a tool for public punishments and humiliation and that’s how it earned its nickname.
Sea Organ isn’t the only art installation in Zadar that uses natural forces to create something truly extraordinary. Monument to the Sun is located right next to it, and it uses a system of multi-layered glass plates and photovoltaic solar modules to create a unique light show.

]]>The bizarre movie theater was designed by the architect Ole Scheeren. He thought up the cinema for the “Film On The Rocks Yao Noi Festival” in Thailand.
“When I saw the beauty of the Nai Pi Lae lagoon, I thought it would be amazing if the audience would float on the ocean while watching movies,” he said of his creation.
Scheeren was not wrong. With a team at hand, he built a huge floating device from recycled wood and mosquito nets. The audience sit on bean bags and watch the cinema screen with the sea and the jungle as the movie’s backdrop.
The cinema is located in the middle of a lagoon in the Strait of Malacca. The audience float and rock gently on the driftwood. If cinema provides the chance for the viewer to escape their reality, the Archipelago Cinema takes escapism to the next level.

]]>This archaeological complex is located in Cape Spartel, only 14 kilometers west of Tangier. Their most picturesque feature is the sea opening, also known as “The Map of Africa,” because its shape resembles the outlines of this continent.
There are many legends and myths surrounding this underrated tourist spot, and they make it even more magical. Some even believe that the macaque monkeys used this cave to come to Africa, and claim it’s a part of a 24 kilometer-long tunnel connecting Morocco and Spain.
The most compelling legend surrounding it is connected to the mythical hero it was named after. According to the ancient stories, Hercules slept inside this cave on his way to steal three golden apples from the Garden of the Hesperides.
