Cenotes are one of the most stunning natural wonders that you can find in Mexico. They’re scattered all across Yucatán, and the visit to this peninsula is incomplete if you don’t take a moment to check them out. Here are three beautiful cenotes that will leave you in awe if you put them on your bucket list.

Dos Ojos Cenote

Dos Ojos is one of Mexico’s most popular cenotes and it’s home to many historic caves and crystal clear natural swimming holes. The clear visibility of its waters makes it a top snorkeling and cavern diving destination, but you’ll equally enjoy it if you’re simply there to look around.

Sacred Cenote

Located in close proximity to the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, this cenote comes with a pretty interesting backstory. Legend has it that the Mayans once used it as a place of sacrifice because archaeologists found many historical artifacts, such as gold, jade, and pottery underneath its surface.

Ik Kil Cenote

Another beautiful cenote near Chichen Itza, this is one of those natural wonders that have to be seen to be believed. Ik Kil Cenote will win you over from the get-go thanks to its verdant rock walls and threadlike vines. It’s another great spot for swimming and snorkeling because its waters are crystal clear.

Many places in Mexico still stand as a constant reminder of the influence that the Mayan culture left on this country, and that happens to be the case with Mérida. Yucatán’s capital has a significant Mayan indigenous population, and it’s home to several places where you can explore Mayan culture and heritage.

Dzibilchaltún

One of the most significant Mayan archaeological sites in all of Yucatán is located just 10 miles north of Mérida. This archaeological site is home to many Mayan ruins, most notably the Temple of the Seven Dolls, and you can find a beautiful Cenote Xlacah on its premises.

Parque Zoológico Animaya

Are you looking for a kid-friendly spot that will make you feel like you’re diving into the ancient past? Parque Zoológico Animaya is just the thing you need! Once you step inside, it will mostly feel like a classic zoo, but its most magical feature is a gigantic observation tower, reminiscent of a Mayan stele.

Mayan World Museum of Mérida

You can find several great museums in Mérida and this one should be on the top of your list. It features an extensive collection of Mayan art, handicrafts, and history, and it’s truly a sight to behold—both inside and out.

There’s something about bright and colorful buildings that makes them extremely popular and many of them become top tourist spots in the age of Instagram. Most of them come in different shades of pink and blue, but the Mexican town of Izamal is putting yellow on the map.

Known by the nicknames, “city of hills” and “yellow city”, this charming little town is one of the most popular day trip destinations near Mérida. It’s located only an hour away from the capital of Yucatán, and tourists from all around the world can’t resist its bright yellow walls.

Most of the colonial and religious buildings in this town were painted yellow, but it’s not really clear why. Some believe this happened in 1993, in honor of the visit of Pope John Paul II, while other stories claim Izamal was painted this way to celebrate the Mayan sun god known as Kinich Kakmó.

The remains of the ancient temple pyramid, known as Kinich Kak Moo, are Izamal’s most important archeological sites, but they’re not the only reason why people visit this charming town. Most of them are here to bask in the glory of amazing yellow buildings, including the city’s most Instagrammable attraction—Convento de San Antonio.

IK Lab is an eco-conscious gallery located in the luxurious ecological Azulik resort in Tulum, a popular vacation town on the coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. The museum itself was created by Santiago Rumney Guggenheim, great-grandson of the famous American art dealer Peggy Guggenheim. It is considered to be an innovative art and cultural space that should inspire visitors as well as artists of all kinds.

The main idea behind this building was to show how architecture can be combined with nature. Big focus was put on sustainability. The main materials that were used in construction were cement and local organic Bejuco wood, which creates a flowy pattern, alternating with segments of cement that look like waves.

The entire gallery is elevated above ground, resembling a giant tree-house. This was done to ensure that the local wildlife is not disrupted in any way. In addition to this, no trees were cut to in the process of construction.

The roof is made out of branches that let natural light come through and illuminate the entire space, creating a forest-like atmosphere. More light floods in through circular windows of varying shapes and sizes, which puncture the walls. There is also a raised walkway that leads around the gallery. These natural materials give a fresh and unique look to the structure.

Visitors must take off their shoes before stepping in, since connecting with nature is a huge part of the entire experience. They are invited to wander around and interact with the architecture and walk barefoot on the curvy floor, minding their every step.

The gallery is dedicated to exploring new ways of experiencing and creating art. It has hosted many exhibitions of some of the world’s finest visual artists, as well as multiple art programs for local children, and a multidisciplinary residency for aspiring artists, fashion designers, chefs, musicians, etc.

If you are a huge Narcos fan, and you are fascinated with the personality of world’s most famous and dangerous drug kingpin, Pablo Escobar, then keep on reading, because we have amazing news for you! Did you know that you can stay in one of Pablo Escobar’s Mansions?

This luxury boutique hotel called Casa Malca, is located in Tulum, on the Caribbean coast of Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula.

After the drug lord’s death in 1993, many of his properties were abandoned, just like this one. However, the mansion was rescued from the encroaching sand dunes as it was rediscovered a decade later in 2003 and returned to its original owner. In 2012 it was bought and renovated by New York art dealer Lio Malca. Now it is a five-star hotel surrounded by crystal clear Caribbean Sea, white-sand beach and a green jungle.

The mansion has 42 suites and rooms in total with breathtaking ocean and garden views. The rooms are decorated with colorful, rustic, eco-friendly materials such as organic cotton and bamboo linens.

Private year-round outdoor swimming pool, sun terrace, rooftop bar that provides picturesque panoramic views of the whole resort are just some of the amazing things you can enjoy while staying in Casa Malca.

Also, at the mansion you’ll be served only fresh, organic, home-grown herbs, fruits and vegetables. You’ll be able to taste and enjoy Mexican food which is made according to Mayan tradition.

This beautiful and peaceful resort with its vibrant blue water, balmy breezes will nourish your body and soul.
