Toledo
A UNESCO World Heritage Site with the historical status of a cultural hub. It’s a great place to fully explore the work of El Greco, a famous past resident of Toledo, and of course don’t miss seeing Alcázar, built by Franco and offering a view of the city and the Tajo river.
Aranjuez
One of the best-kept palaces in Spain is The Royal Palace of Aranjuez, with its glorious colorful buildings and lush gardens. Tour the throne room and look at the royal artifacts shown in the palace, walk the boulevards surrounding the palace, made to fit a royal, and taste some local game in one of the town’s many restaurants.
Ávila
About 100 kilometers from Madrid sits the historical walled city of Ávila. Enjoy a stroll around the medieval wall and check out some of its 80 towers. The convent of Santa Teresa, dedicated to the city’s patron saint, is also worth a visit.
