One of the reasons that Rome is one of the most visited destinations in the world is due to its rich history. With that history comes a bevy of culinary cornerstones, religious traditions, artistic statues, and amazing architecture that you have to see to believe. One such feat of incredible architecture is none other than the Roman Colosseum, and here’s why you should definitely check it out while you’re there.

An Impressive Piece of Work

As mentioned before, the Colosseum is mere proof of the unique architectural capabilities of the ancient Italians. But it’s one thing to look at a picture of it, and other to be there in person. It’s truly a sight to see, and you’ll feel as though you were transported through a time machine as you walk through its magnificent halls. For many people, what makes the Colosseum special has more to do with its purpose for existing in the first place. It was a place where entertainment events were held just as they’re held today in arenas all around the world—except in this case, the entertainment was watching Gladiators barbarically fighting one another to the death. While this would obviously be frowned upon today, the Colosseum nevertheless serves as a relic of those past times for many to appreciate.
