In this day and age, it’s difficult to imagine a country that doesn’t have an airport—yet there are five such countries in the world. The reason is mostly that they are tiny. Here are those countries.

Vatican City

Vatican City is an independent city-state located inside the territory of Rome. You can’t travel to Vatican City directly, but there are two airports in Rome that you can arrive at.

San Marino

San Marino is similar. This tiny country is completely surrounded by Italian land but is really accessible, despite not having its own airport. If you want to visit San Marino, you can fly to the coastal city of Rimini, Italy.

Monaco

Monaco is located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and surrounded by the territory of France, so you can choose to fly to nearby city of Nice and enter the country with a car using one of the most famous Formula One tracks in the world.
