One of the main reasons many of us travel is to be exposed to foreign people and cultures, which is a great way to broaden our horizons and learn. But sometimes we see things so unexpected that they can only be described by one term: culture shock. Here are just some culture shock experiences you can expect to have if you travel to Europe.

Siesta in Spain

In Spain (and some other countries), there is a concept called siesta, when people take a nap during the day. Sounds nice? It sure is! And the Spanish take it seriously, with restaurants, shops, and businesses all shutting down for siesta hour in the middle of the day so people can get their rest.

Cheap Beer

In many European countries, beer is much cheaper than it is in the United States, for example, and people drink it much more frequently. Often, beer is even cheaper than water or juice. You can even find it at McDonald’s!

Paid Toilets

If you’re from the United States, you’re probably used to there being public toilets available in areas with lots of foot traffic – for free. Well, if you find a public toilet in Europe, chances are you’ll have to pay a euro or two to use it. So make sure to keep some coins around!
