Gibraltar has a surface of just 2.6 square miles but still manages to pack plenty of attractions that draw tourists from all over the world. The place is well worth visiting, but there are some things you should know about it before actually going there.

It is a British Overseas Territory

Gibraltar isn’t actually an independent country but a British overseas territory. This means that all the rules of entry for Great Britain apply here. Also, the official language is English, and the currency is pound sterling.

It is Perfect for a Short Visit

Gibraltar is a perfect place for a short visit or day trip from Spain. You can see all of its major tourist attractions in a couple of days and get some time to hit the beaches.

You Will Have to Be Aware of Barbary Macaque Monkeys

Gibraltar is the only place in Europe where you can see wild monkeys. Its Barbary macaque population is a major tourist attraction, but you will have to be cautious around them. These monkeys will target your belongings if you are not careful enough, and it is illegal to feed them.

Food is Exceptional

Sure, there are plenty of food joints in Gibraltar that offer British cuisine staples that many tourists might not be fond of. However, you will also find international cuisine and unique takes on popular dishes with Moroccan and Spanish influences.
