This Museum in Switzerland is Designed to Resemble the Mechanics of a Watch

High-quality watches are one of the many things that remind us of Switzerland. Other than chocolate, cheese, and the Alps, impeccable watches are many people’s first association with this European country. Watchmaker Audemars Piguet wanted to celebrate the industry by having a new museum building designed to resemble the mechanics of a watch.

The project was done by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). The new museum is located next to the watchmaker’s oringinal workshop that’s been standing there since the 19th century. The original building was also restored and they are now connected into a museum that recently opened for visitors.

The building’s design is the first thing that attracts the visitors. It’s equally impressive on the inside, holding nearly 300 amazing watches among which is a vintage watch that has over 1,100 parts. It has a special place in the museum and is surrounded by other astronomical watches that are just as fascinating.

Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet is located in the Jura Mountains, providing spectacular views through the huge windows that go from floor to ceiling. The company already started a new project with architects from BIG to build a hotel nearby in order to attract even more people to the area.
