Spain is known for good food and good parties, but also for great art. Madrid has some of the best museums in the world that celebrate the world of art, so here are three museums that are a must-visit if the road takes you there!
Museo Nacional Del Prado
Art historian Jonathan Brown has called this museum “the most important museum in the world for European painting,” so it’s no wonder it’s something that Madrid is very proud of! Here you can find art from any period from the 12th to the 20th century and from many celebrated authors like Goya and Velazquez.
Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza
Dali, El Greco, Monet, Picasso and Rembrandt are just some of the painters whose artworks can be found in this museum. Once an aristocratic mansion, the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza is now home to various collections from different periods between medieval times and the 21st century.
Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia
If you’re a fan of Picasso’s work, this is the place to visit. Here you can see the famous “Guernica,” along with many other artworks from the 20th century, many of which focus on the Spanish civil war and feminism.
