Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York City is one of the most iconic sports landmarks on the planet. This cathedral of baseball, whose new iteration opened for the 2009 season, is a must-visit for any sports fan who has the pleasure of visiting New York from April to October.

If you are lucky enough to go to this unbelievable stadium, you must do these things before leaving.

Take the Subway to and from the Game

Any true New Yorker who goes to see the Yankees takes the subway to and from the game, as it’s a great way to spend some extra time with fellow diehards before arriving at the stadium. Yankees passion runs deep on the subway trains to and from the stadium, and this is an experience you won’t want to miss.

Visit Monument Park

One of the highlights of the stadium is a collection of plaques and retired numbers just beyond the center-field fence. This “open air museum” is an unrivaled collection of artifacts related to the history of Major League Baseball’s most storied franchise.

Participate in the “Roll Call”

Yankee Stadium’s most raucous fans are located in the right-field bleachers of the stadium. These fans, known as the “Bleacher Creatures,” have a tradition of going through all of the players on the Yankees’ lineup for every given day, yelling their names, and receiving acknowledgment like a hat tip from each player. It’s a magical tradition that every baseball fan should live at least once.
