Basel is safely tucked away on the border between Switzerland, France, and Germany, and it’s a heaven on Earth for art lovers. With dozens of museums scattered all around the city, it’s one of Europe’s major cultural centers and here are three museums every art lover should check out during their visit.

Kunstmuseum

Kunstmuseum opened its doors all the way back in 1661 and it’s home to the oldest public art collection in the world. It’s Basel’s major cultural institution and one of the most important museums in Switzerland, with an art collection ranging from the 15th century.

Museum Tinguely

Jean Tinguely was a famed Swiss artist and sculptor, best known for his kinetic art, and you can find an entire museum dedicated to his body of work in Basel. His wife donated 55 of his sculptures to the museum, but you can also find pieces by several of his contemporaries on its premises.
