Bangkok, Thailand is known for its many temples, and choosing just a few to see when you have limited time in the city is not easy. Here’s what we would pick, but you won’t go wrong whichever you decide to visit.

Wat Phra Kaew

First of all, there is the Temple of Emerald Buddha or Wat Phra Kaew, a place where the 15th-century jade statue of Buddha is placed. The statue’s clothes get changed seasonally by the King of Thailand in a ceremony. If you want to visit the temple, make sure you’ve dressed appropriately (this goes for most of them).

Wat Arun

Temple of Dawn, or Wat Arun, has recently been restored and is one of the most popular and beautiful sights in Bangkok. You can see it on the 10-baht coin as well, that’s how popular it is.

Wat Saket

Wat Saket stands on top of a man-made hill and has a golden Chedi believed to contain a Buddha relic. 344 steps lead to its top, from where there’s an amazing view of the city.

Wat Pho

We can’t forget the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, the temple that’s considered the world’s headquarters for Thai massage and traditional medicine.
