Top Tips to Avoid Getting Caught Out When Visiting The Pyramids

Egypt is a country full of wonderment and genuinely friendly people. But just like any major tourist attraction, here are some tips to make sure you don’t fall into any tourist traps.

Perfect Picture

You are best off bringing a selfie stick if you want that perfect Instagram shot. Scammers do target tourists outside the pyramids, and may then charge you to get your phone or camera back. Or in some cases, they have been known to take your phone and run.

Guided Tours

Make sure you book all your tickets and guides from a trusted source. It’s worth having an expert show you the hidden gems but do not accept private tours when outside actual attraction. You may end up being scammed and parting with more cash than intended. Entrances to museums and pyramids are not always included in official tours, so be sure to clarify what is included.

Water Supply

Be prepared with plenty of drinking water on any tours. You do not want to buy a bottle that has been resealed and may be contaminated. Make sure you also have some change for restrooms. You will be charged to enter facilities and be charged extra for toilet paper.

Be respectful

It goes without saying that you should not climb the pyramids. But there are other things to consider: do not litter and make sure you dress appropriately. Avoid clothes that are low cut, short or tight. Egyptian culture is conservative and needs to be respected.
