Almost every tourist that sets foot in Rome, Italy, wants to see the Colosseum. One of the most-recognizable landmarks in the world, the Colosseum is admired by millions of visitors each year who come to enjoy its astonishing architectural beauty and captivating story.

Unfortunately, not everyone ends up having a great experience when visiting the Colosseum. This is mainly because they make some of the following tourist mistakes.

Failing to Get Tickets in Advance

Being Rome’s most popular tourist attraction, the Colosseum is almost always crowded. This means that some visitors need to wait for hours in line to get in. To avoid this from happening, get your tickets in advance with a skip-the-line perk.

Choosing the Wrong Time of the Day

If you want to really have the best experience, make sure that you visit in the morning. There will be fewer crowds, and you will get to properly explore all the things you deem interesting. Also, it won’t be too hot.

Not Being Properly Equipped

Tours of the Colosseum can take up to three hours and involve a lot of walking. You should be properly equipped for it, which includes wearing comfy clothes and shoes and bringing snacks and water. Also, wear sunscreen if you are visiting during the summer or spring.

Bringing a Large Backpack

You should only bring things you will really need, like your phone, documents, and previously mentioned snacks and water. Avoid putting a large backpack on your back, as it will wear you down, and you’ll be too tired to enjoy everything that the Colosseum has to offer. Also, you will not have to worry about bringing in prohibited items, as the entrance checks are pretty strict.
