You’ve probably heard it a million times while traveling. Heck, you might’ve even said it yourself a time or two. We’re talking about the idea that traveling is an escape from the real world. There’s definitely a perspective where this can be seen as true—and it’s a pretty obvious one. But here’s why people shouldn’t be viewing travel as an escape.
Turning the World Off
It’s natural for people to see traveling as an escape. After all, most of the time people travel because they’re on a vacation of some kind—and thus, they’re “escaping” from their mundane day-to-day life back home. The only issue is, sometimes people get a bit carried away with this idea, and forget themselves in the process.
Black and White Mentality
By adopting this escapism attitude, you may come to resent what you have going on back home. You may come to under-appreciate all of the blessings you have. It’s great to have fun on the road, but not if it comes at the expense of hating everything you left behind.
It’s a Balance
You don’t want to feel like you need the trip because everything is bad back home—because then you’ll dread returning. It’s always better to view your trip as something positive, instead of viewing your life back home as something negative.
