Carnival is a time for bright colors and celebration. It’s an honored tradition in many parts of the world. This holiday is usually celebrated in February or March, just before Lent. Here are some of the top destinations to visit for an unforgettable Carnival experience.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The Rio Carnival is maybe the most famous Carnaval in the world. The celebration is famous for its samba parades, flamboyant costumes, and crazy energy lasting for days on end. The main event is at the Sambadrome, but you’ll find “blocos,” aka parties, all throughout the city during this festive time.

Venice, Italy

Venice Carnival is famous for its elaborate masks and masquerade balls. Every year, the historic city transforms into a living work of art. So if you plan a trip to Venice during Carnival, don’t forget to pack your most opulent mask.

New Orleans, USA

Mardi Gras in New Orleans is a legendary event that brings the city to life with parades, music, and finger-licking good Creole and Cajun cuisine. The festivities begin at the beginning of Carnaval week and lead up to Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras in French). The floats are colorful and fun and the whole city seems to be in on the celebration.
