The country of Switzerland in central Europe is known for being one of the best locations in the world when it comes to many different things—watches, cheese, and neutrality to name a few. Switzerland’s biggest claim to fame, however, is inarguably chocolate, of which it produces about 180,000 tons per year. Swiss chocolate is typically very smooth and milkier than many other chocolates, and the techniques used in its production make for a finished product unlike any other. Visitors from around the world come to Switzerland just for a taste. Here are some of our favorite places to find chocolate whenever we’re in the country.

Max Chocolatier

Head to this chocolate shop in Lucerne to try authentic Swiss chocolate bars and truffles handmade with natural ingredients such as fruit, Tahitian vanilla, and balsamic vinegar. They’ve even got vegan options for those who can’t have milk.

Confiserie Sprüngli

This chocolate shop in Zurich is one of the oldest in the country, having opened as a candy shop in 1836. The shop began producing chocolate in 1845, and the rest is history. Sprüngli continues to offer high-quality pralines and truffles made using traditional recipes.

Du Rhône Chocolatier

Du Rhône Chocolatier in Geneva is another factory and shop that has produced chocolate using Swiss methods for over a century, having opened in 1875. Today, Du Rhône produces some of the best chocolate in Switzerland as well as offering chocolate-making workshops and tastings.
