When you’re traveling, there’s a lot of options you may consider for where to stay. Hotels, Airbnbs, or even camping may cross your mind. One great option that you’re probably aware of is hostels. Hostels are cheaper accommodations than hotels, designed for long or short-term communal living. Here are some reasons to give them a try.

Communal

Most of the time, hostels have options for rooms of different sizes at different prices. That is, you can reserve a bed in a room with four, six, or eight bunk beds, or pay more for a double or triple for only your group. The rooms will have a locker to store your bags. But, it’s worth trying out a larger room, especially if you’re traveling alone because you’ll meet lots of other tourists. You can experience the communal feel and maybe even make some new friends. There’s also often a communal kitchen for long stays.

Budget

Hostels are a great way to save money, since you’re reserving only a bed instead of a whole room. They are generally a cheaper option than hotels or Airbnbs, and are designed for travelers on a budget. They may also have a cheap breakfast or bar where you can hang out too.

They’re Hip

Since hostels tend to be geared toward a younger demographic, their decor and staff tend to be more trendy and laid-back than at a more traditional accommodation. You can relax and enjoy the vibe while meeting new people as well.
