Holi (India)

Holi is a Hindu festival which happens in early spring in India and known as the “Festival of Colors.” It’s a celebration of good winning evil. Members of the event coat themselves with vibrant color powders while singing and dancing on the streets.

La Tomatina (Spain)

At the last Wednesday of August, Buñol, Spain, is filled with tomatoes. The festival includes a tomato fight and is usually set in the town square. The messy part lasts for about an hour, followed by participants washing it off in the local pool.

Yi Peng Festival (Thailand)

This festival occurs every other full moon in Chiang Mai, Thailand. During the celebration, people release lanterns made of rice paper. It is believed that the lanterns can bring good luck and tham bun (or Buddhist merit).

Dia De Los Moertos (Mexico)

“Day of the Dead” Festival is done every 31st of October to the 2nd of November in Mexico City, Mexico. Faces are painted with skeleton while dancing Calavera Catrinas (“Dapper Skeletons”) in the four miles of the Paseo de la Reforma to honor their ancestors.

Carnaval (Brazil)

In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, four days before Ash Wednesday, this event is being celebrated. The city built the Sambadrome which is a parade ground with benches to accommodate the celebration.
