Traveling by plane is all about being prepared. With long check-in lines, never-ending security procedures, and having to navigate your way through layovers in unfamiliar airports, it can be stressful to travel by plane if you aren’t prepared.

One way to stay prepared is to be aware of the things that you can and cannot take through airport security screening. Here are some items that you might not have ever realized are prohibited past the secured area.

Peanut Butter

Did you know that you actually cannot take peanut butter past security in your hand luggage? This is because peanut butter is considered a liquid according to airport security, which means that it’s subject to the same restrictive policies as other liquids.

Snow Globes

Did you travel to a winter wonderland and buy yourself a snow globe? Don’t try to take it on board a plane! Due to the liquid contained within the snow globe, this item is a no-no unless it is an especially small one.

Alcohol Above 140 Proof

Due to concerns about flammability, airport security does not allow alcohol above 140 proof (70%) in hand luggage nor in checked luggage. Some alcohols exceed this limit, so be sure to check the alcohol content if you’re taking liquor on board.
