You Should Be Documenting Your Travels

If you’re having the time of your life on the road, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t a little jealous. You should revel in this period and allow yourself to relax before heading back to the drudgery of daily life. But before you go ahead and do that, one thing that you might not have considered doing already is documenting your travels. Here’s why you may want to do something like this.

You may think that you’ll remember everything you did on your trip ten years from now. But take our word for it. It doesn’t matter how memorable your trip is—there will always be things that you forget, and therefore it’s good to write these things down.

But it goes even deeper than that. Even if you might remember something down the line, that doesn’t mean you’ll remember it the way you wanted to. Everything is fresh in your mind right now, from your emotions to your spiritual energy. There’s a small chance that you may forget about these things with time, even if you might happen to remember the actual places you went to.

Ultimately, it’s not just about where you went and what you did. It’s about the feelings you felt and the wisdom you learned. These are the ideas that are important to document, because they’re often the ones that are so easily forgotten. So make sure you write the things down that really moved you as soon as they happen. Take pictures and put them in a notebook, with a caption of what you did, where you were and what you were feeling. These are the souvenirs that you will never be able to find a shop anywhere. They are your memories and they are priceless.
