Monteverde
Famous for its cloud forests, nature lovers will feel in their element in Monteverde. Take guided hikes through the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve where you can explore the hanging bridges, visit the butterfly and hummingbird gardens, and go zip-lining through the treetops.
San José
San José is home to some of Costa Rica’s iconic neighborhood like Barrio Amón and Barrio Escalante. Delve deeper into the history of the country by visiting the National Museum, and get a taste for the culture by sampling the cuisine. Gallo pinto is the national dish, and you should definitely include ceviche and arroz con pollo on the menu. And don’t forget a cup of Costa Rican coffee.
Tortuguero
You can’t separate Tortuguero and turtles. The little critters are renowned for nesting in the area on the Caribbean coast. Visit between July and October to witness sea turtles laying their eggs at night. You can also take a boat tour through the canals to observe incredible wildlife like caimans, monkeys, and exotic birds.
