Not everyone can just take two weeks off out of the blue and go travel somewhere. Most people have jobs to report to, and very rarely have more than one opportunity a year to take an extended vacation. For this reason, a weekend getaway is a great option for a fun two- or three-day trip, without having to miss any time from work. Here are three ways to pull off such a trip successfully.

Plan Ahead

This may seem obvious, but plan as much as you can. It’s easier to be spontaneous when you have a few weeks to spare, but if you’re only traveling for a few days, the only way to get a lot done is to be efficient. So make sure you plan your itinerary out up front.

Leave Early On Friday

We’re obviously not saying that you should skip out on work in secret. We mean that you should get all of your work done early, and ask your boss if it would be okay if you dipped out a bit early on Friday so you can go on your trip. Chances are, if they’re a good boss, they’ll appreciate your honesty and say yes.

Travel Somewhere Far, But Not Really

If you’re trying to get out of town, but don’t want to waste too much time flying, find a way to split the difference. Look for hotspots that can be reached on a simple two-hour flight or drive. If you live in America or Europe, chances are you’ll be able to find a great destination that suffices.
