Many breathtaking islands can be found off the coast of Australia, and Fraser Island aka K’gari is one of the very best. It’s one of the most popular day-trip destinations to visit from Queensland’s capital of Brisbane, and it deserves a spot on your bucket list for more reasons than one.

World Heritage Site

World Heritage-listed spots are always worth exploring, and Fraser Island made the list all the way back in 1992. It certainly deserves its spot on the list since it’s one of the largest sand islands in the world.

Swimmers’ Paradise

K’gari is home to countless spots where you can take a dip, from its many beaches and lakes to Eli Creek, which leads to one of the island’s most scenic swimming destinations—Champagne Pools.

Native Wildlife

Nature lovers will feel right at home at Fraser Island since it’s home to countless native species of mammals, reptiles, and birds. Dingos are one of its most famous inhabitants, and Fraser is one of the few places in the world where you can spot them in their natural habitat. There are also dolphins in its waters!

Hiking Adventure

If you’re a hiking enthusiast, lace up your boots and get ready to hit the trails. Many shorter walks are available, but the Fraser Island Great Walk is the most challenging.

Shipwreck Bonanza

Shipwreck of the S.S. Maheno is one of Fraser’s most popular spots. The ship was caught in a strong cyclone in 1935, and it’s been beached on the east coast of K’gari ever since.
