]]>Being in Charleston feels somewhere in between feeling like you’re in a history book, a bopping city, and a gorgeous beach town. If this sounds good to you, you have to go to Charleston.
One place in Charleston you have to visit is the Battery. This was the defensive sea wall during the Civil War, because it’s right on the water. Nowadays, people go there to check out the stunning oversized homes, which give Charleston such a magical feel.
Charleston also has a ton of nearby beaches like Folly Beach, Kiawah Island, and more. Being able to be in a great city one day and drive only 20 minutes to the beach the next is so special and another reason why Charleston has something other cities just don’t have.
If you have a sweet tooth, you cannot leave Charleston without trying a praline. These pralines are caramel-y, nutty, soft, and really give you the perfect combination — all in a little round treat. You can often see bakeries making them fresh, which is super exciting!

Not only are people dressed up, but they are really doing the work that people in colonial times would have been doing. The blacksmiths really blacksmith, the cooks cook, and so on. It’s so fun to go around to the different areas and visit the people working hard, and actually doing the work they talk to you about.
Winston Salem, North Carolina was founded in the 18th century by a Moravian community that immigrated from Europe. At the Old Salem Museums and Gardens, everything has gone back to the time when Winston Salem was first founded almost 300 years ago. Everyone is in traditional garb and the grounds are made to look just as they were hundreds of years ago, and they also do work similar to that of Colonial Williamsburg.

]]>The arabica plant from which coffee is from was first found and cultivated in the Kaffa region of Ethiopia, which is how the word coffee came about. Scholars say that coffee was first cultivated back in the 9th century, which is pretty amazing.
Just as people in Japan have tea ceremonies, people in Ethiopia have coffee ceremonies! The ceremony is very special and is meant to engage all five of your senses during the whole time. The ceremony consists of roasting, grinding, and brewing the coffee, and more. The ceremony is not only to appreciate the coffee more but to bring people together as a social gathering.
Usually, you have to be personally invited to a coffee ceremony, but in the capital of Addis Ababa, there are some places where you can experience a more informal ceremony at places like Alem Bunna or other coffee shops. But even if you just grab a cup of joe to go, you’ll be amazed by how incredible the coffee is, and you’ll never look back!

There are so many different places to experience art in Taos, but one that you cannot miss it the Harwood Museum of Art. The pieces are all done by local artists and you really get a feel for the region through their art.
Another interesting museum that combines art and local jewelry is the Millicent Rogers Museum. ]]>You know that if you’re going to a Michelin Guide recommended sushi restaurant, the dishes are going to be incredible. Saru is one of the best sushi restaurants in the city because they use super high-quality ingredients and every dish is made as perfectly as possible.
The attention they put into each aspect of making the sushi is another key reason that Saru stands out from other restaurants. Their rice is delicious and is grown in Japan, and their selection of soy sauces are ridiculously tasty and even includes one that is made in-house.
If you’re looking for a different kind of Japanese restaurant, Halu is one that brings a major twist. Halu is a ’60s, Beetle-inspired theme restaurant but actually isn’t too kitschy. They serve is yakitori and izakaya-style food rather than typical sushi, so if you are in the mood to have fun some and eat incredibly crafted Japanese cuisine, you have to check out Halu.

]]>Something that should not be overlooked when booking a hotel is whether it comes with free breakfast or not. It used to be that most hotels offered breakfast, even if it was just continental, but that’s just not the case anymore. Strangely enough, the nicer and most expensive hotels will rarely come with free breakfast, unless you get a deal with it included. So, if you’re a big breakfast person or have people with you that are, it probably pays to stay at a place where it’s included.
What a lot of people don’t think about is staying at brand new hotels. While some people get attached to certain places, if you stay at new hotels wherever you go, you’re more likely to get a better deal. This is because newer hotels don’t have the credibility of older hotels, which makes them more susceptible to empty rooms. So, if you really want a good deal, research new hotels that have just opened up.
