Cycling through the Trees is the newest addition in the Limburg cycle route network, which allows cyclists and adventurers to enjoy the natural landscape of Limburg in a unique way. This cycling and walking experience is a 32 feet elevated circular bike path built through the treetops of the Bosland forest, located about an hour away from Brussels.

The project was initiated by Visit Limburg and designed by landscape architect Pieter Daenen in collaboration with architects De Gregorio & Partners. The main idea behind the design of the cycle bridge and its construction within the forest was to bring out the beauty and importance of the existing flora and fauna.

The structure forms a gradually-inclined path that allows visitors to ride along a 100-meter (328 feet) diameter double circle that offers 360° views of the surrounding landscape. At the start of the path, there is an information pavilion built from stacked recycled logs, where visitors can relax and enjoy the view of the forest. The path also offers multiple alcoves with benches to sit and rest along the way.

This is only the second project in a series of innovative experiences enabling cyclists to enjoy the beauty of nature along the Limburg cycle route network. The attraction was an instant success and brought more than 70,000 people in the first four weeks only. Now, over 2,000 people use it every day. Due to this project’s popularity, Visit Limburg is planning on building more similar attractions in the future. This is a must-see for nature lovers and those who enjoy cycling tourism.

Aube Wedding Venue is a popular wedding location in the suburban area of Bangkok, Thailand. It was built in 2019 by PHTAA Living Design and nominated for Entertainment Venue Of The Year, due to its impeccable aesthetics and a design that’s made to be completely flexible to accommodate a variety of religions and cultures, mixing traditional and modern in a unique way.

Since Thai weddings traditionally have a pre-engagement procession called Khan Maak, where the groom and party must pass through ‘golden’ or ‘silver gates’ in order to reach the bride, the design includes a walkway running along the western edge of the building, ending with the engagement room.

However, the venue itself honors Thailand’s history of borrowing and mixing cultures, and this is why the building itself was built to host many different types of weddings, including western elements as well. The deconstructed arches give the building a modern image that is completely open to interpretation.

Nowadays, weddings have become an opportunity for photographing, which is a big part of the venue’s design. White curved walls and cut-outs serve as a blank canvas and a perfect backdrop for stunning wedding photos. The curved geometry creates a play of light, which can add interesting textures and shapes. The soft draped white curtains create a sensual space that reflects the building’s name, Aube, which means ‘hug’.

The two main internal spaces are the main wedding hall and the engagement hall. The engagement hall holds 150 people and is separated from the main hall by the ‘bouquet throwing’ courtyard which features a beautiful sculptural staircase. The main hall is delicately decorated with a corniced ceiling and can hold up to 290 people.

The Alnwick Garden is a complex of formal gardens adjacent to Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, England. A big part of the gardens was designed in 1750 by the famous 18th-century English landscape architect Capability Brown, commissioned by the 1st Duke of Northumberland. At the end of the 19th century, the gardens reached their full grandeur, with exotic plants, a large conservatory, intricate topiary shapes, avenues of limes and acres of flowers.

During the Second World War, the grounds were turned over and used as a vegetable garden. After 1945 it fell into disrepair and was officially closed off in 1950. But when, in 1995, Jane Percy became the 14th Duchess of Northumberland, she initiated the redevelopment and came up with the idea to transform a neglected section of the gardens and turn it into a poison garden.

As a contrast to the common apothecary gardens, instead of using plants with medicinal properties, the duchess decided to put a twist on it, and plant only highly poisonous or deadly plant species. The garden was first opened in 2005 and contains about 100 poisonous plants such as deadly nightshade, hemlock, foxglove, and opium poppy.

Because of the dangerous properties of the plants, some of them are caged, and the garden is kept under 24-hour security. Guided tours are available for curious visitors and the garden is used for educational purposes for children or anyone interested in finding out more about the unique species planted here.

Today, the Alnwick gardens span over 14 acres and attract over 600,000 visitors each year, making them one of North England’s most popular tourist attractions.

Zhongshuge bookstore is located in the commercial center of Star Avenue, Binjiang District, in Chongqing, China. It was designed by XL-Muse studio, whose main idea was to create a space that will prove just how big of a role reading plays in society, and how it is, similar to breathing, vital for our existence.

The design was inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Yangzhou, which used to be a place where many ancient writers and poets gathered in the past.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BxJTvU9HXcL/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

The plain glass exterior of the building hides the sleek interior made of black, mirrored ceilings and floors, which create an illusion of entering a never-ending tunnel made of books.

The bookstore is divided into four different areas, each inviting visitors to get lost amongst the thousands of books on display. The pure white “reader’s forest” zone leads into a corridor with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves extending endlessly to the side. There is also a peaceful reading room with benches to relax on, a theatrical readers’ hall, and a playground-inspired children’s area. On the 4th floor, there is a leisure area, where visitors can enjoy a good cup of coffee or tea.

The most intriguing aspect of the space is the double-height hall featuring zig-zagging sets of stairs that lead up and across tall bookshelves that line the walls. The stairs double up as seats, where visitors are encouraged to rest and read as long as they wish to.

Zhongshuge bookstore is a great place to not only read books but also take the time to think and interact with other visitors. The mirroring surfaces and ceilings dramatically expand the view, creating a sense of infinity, which further emphasizes the importance of reading. It is a creative space where you can browse for a new favorite story or simply spend hours enjoying the peaceful ambiance that will spark your imagination.

We often rely on memories and photographs to remember our travels, but there is another way to keep our adventures fresh in our minds and make sure we never forget them. Making a travel journal is pretty simple, all you need is a notebook of your choosing and you’re all set to start creating a unique personal souvenir of your trips. Here are a few good reasons to have a travel journal.

It can help you plan your trip

Travel journals can be useful even while you’re still in the planning phase of your vacation. You can jot down all your ideas and places you don’t want to miss, so you don’t forget them once you’re there. This is great for preparation, and it will engage you in doing some research beforehand. With this information, you’ll easily be able to make a loose schedule for yourself and start the journey of your dreams.

You can write about your experiences on the spot

You can treat your travel journal as a diary. It provides a safe space for your eyes only, where you can write down all your thoughts, feelings, observations and immediate impressions, at any moment of your trip. This is especially useful if you’re traveling alone and have no one else to share your experiences with. You can also write about all the new food that you tried and loved, or all the hidden gems you discovered along the way.

It can be a cool place to store your souvenirs

If you’re someone who likes to collect every single trinket from your travels, such as maps, tickets, cards, brochures, coins, etc., you can glue them all onto the pages and make it into your own little art project. Even if you’re not a skilled artist, don’t be afraid to sit down and sketch some of your favorite buildings or a part of the scenery that captivates you. These can all be valuable keepsakes that you will be able to look back at and reflect on your experiences once you get home.

Located in Billund, Denmark, the LEGO House was conceived as an urban space as well as an experience center for all LEGO lovers. Designed by the architectural firm BIG (BjarkeIngels Group), it was created as a place where children and creative souls of all ages can get the ultimate LEGO experience all year round.

The building itself represents a literal manifestation of the infinite possibilities the LEGO brick can offer. It consists of 21 white bricks stacked on top of each other. The facade is covered with tiles and from afar it looks as if the entire building is made of LEGO bricks only. It is an impressively large building, covering an area of 12,000 square meters.

The ground floor consists of three restaurants, a LEGO Store, a conference room and the 2,000-square meter LEGO Square. The Plaza is integrated into the public space, allowing visitors and citizens of Billund to freely walk through the building.

The first and second floors include four experience zones arranged by color, each representing a certain aspect of a child’s learning. Each zone is organized for different activities, encouraging visitors to explore and play at their own pace. Red is for creative skills, Blue is for cognitive skills, Green is for social skills and Yellow is for emotional skills. Of course, these are not limited to children only but welcome all LEGO enthusiasts to imagine and create their own LEGO worlds.

In addition to the experience zones, there is also a large gallery of LEGO creations built by fans and a large exhibition about the history of the LEGO brand, as well as a huge sheltered public space and a number of outdoor terraces and playgrounds for visitors to explore and enjoy.

The small village of Erriadh, located on the Tunisian island of Djerba, was just a quiet place far off the beaten track until a street art event called Djerbahood took place in June of 2014 and transformed it into a big outdoor gallery.

The name Djerbahood comes from the fact that the village, also known as El Hara Sghira, means “small neighborhood” in Arabic. The project was established by the Itinerrance de Paris gallery, and the founder, Mehdi Ben Cheikh, got permission from the government and local authorities before organizing this event and turning it into reality.

150 street artists of 30 different nationalities from all over the world were gathered here to participate in the event, and create 250 individual and collective pieces of art. Over 4500 painting sprays were used up during the event. All the citizens and merchants of the quarter provided the materials and supplies needed for the art installations.

As the murals began to appear and decorate the facades of buildings, a lot of meetings between artists and locals occurred. Some of the residents were reluctant at first, but after seeing the village come to life, they ended up asking the artists to paint their walls as well. The interactions changed the atmosphere of the village, connecting the residents and making the whole community come together.

The village of Erriadh was chosen specifically for its traditional architecture, and thanks to this event, it soon became an attractive destination for tourists. This affected the entire island as well, bringing it some much needed positive attention and economical growth.

The Tunisian phone operator Ooredoo Tunisia provides a virtual tour of the village streets, which is available on the official website of the project for anyone interested to see.

The Fira de Bellcaire, or more popularly known as Els Encants Vells (the Spanish phrase for Old Charms), is the largest flea market in Barcelona and one of the oldest markets in Europe. It first opened in the 13th century and has since changed multiple locations.

In 2013, it finally settled by the Plaça de Les Glòries Catalanes, known as the “new” center of Barcelona, opposite the Agbar Tower.

What makes this market an impressive place to see is its architecture. A multileveled platform and a 33,306 meter squared radiant mirrored canopy was designed by architect Fermin Väzquez and today stands as one of the most beautiful modern market buildings in Europe.

The open-air structure preserves the old market’s outdoor atmosphere, while the roof serves as protection from the sun and rain. It is a building without walls and is made accessible from all sides, in order to prevent big crowds.

The market is visited by 100,000 people every week and has become a popular tourist spot. It makes for an exciting shopping experience, where you can hunt for unique vintage and antique items, as well as clothes, housewares, jewelry, tools, cosmetics, and textiles.

The market is brimming with second-hand goods but offers a big variety of new products for sale as well. If you enjoy a good shopping experience but love to stay outside, make sure not to miss it on your next trip to Barcelona.

Cappadocia is a historic region of Turkey, set in central Anatolia, surrounded by the towns of Ürgüp, Göreme, Uçhisar, Avanos, and Mustafapaşa. Its most striking feature is the “moonscape” shaped by ancient volcanic eruptions and wind erosion. This process has formed caves, pinnacles, pillars and chimneys up to 130 feet high, creating a fairytale-like landscape made of soft volcanic rock. It is a very popular tourist destination, due to its many unique geological and cultural features.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B24bNzvBuFC/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

There are many hikes you can take in this area, including climbing up the Uchisar castle, the highest point of Cappadocia, from which you can see some of the best panoramic views of the area. You will get the chance to explore many caves, the most famous of them being the Underground City of Derinkuyu. Built in the 7th and 8th centuries B.C, it used to be home to 20,000 people on its 16 levels. It was inhabited until the early 20th century, but now it serves as a museum.

https://www.instagram.com/p/By29w_PBL4L/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

While in Cappadocia, you should also make time to visit the Goreme Open Air Museum. Created as a Byzantine monastic settlement in the 9th century, and later becoming a pilgrimage site in the 17th century, the complex contains more than 30 churches and chapels carved from rock. Some of them still contain intact Byzantine frescoes and other pieces of art.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Buf_w3-A8Mj/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

One of the most popular activities that attract thousands of tourists to this place every year is the hot-air ballooning. Every day, right after sunrise, hundreds of air balloons are let out into the sky at the same time. This can be a beautiful sight to watch from terraces and rooftops of numerous cave hotels, but it’s even more magical if you experience the ride yourself. Seeing the unique scenery of Cappadocia from this vantage point is an unforgettable experience.

Built in the Art-Nouveau style, its most impressive feature is the main hall with a gallery and a domed glass roof. The complex itself includes many saunas and plunge pools, an open-air swimming pool that creates artificial waves, and an effervescent swimming pool. You can also find a Finnish sauna with a cold pool. Many massage services and spa treatments are available for you to relax and pamper yourself.

The temperature of the water in the pools is between 35 °C and 40 °C. The water contains many minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sulfur, which all have a lot of medicinal and healing properties. If you want to experience the invigorating powers of the mineral-rich waters, this is the perfect place for you. The many medicinal benefits these waters have are also a plus. Among other health problems, they can help with circulation, asthma, bronchitis, etc.

The Gellért Spa is famous for its lovely warm spring water pools, its architecture as well as its landscape. The entire interior of the thermal baths is decorated with beautiful and detailed mosaic tiles, an obvious influence of the Ottoman Empire, who used it during the 16th and 17th centuries.
