Most travelers to the Palace of Versailles in France think it is one of the most magnificent palaces in the world, and it is. But the gardens around Versailles are just as impressive. André Le Nôtre is the designer behind this classic French style, and the manicured gardens cover 800 hectares of land. Just as much work went into designing them as the palace.

You can spend an entire day wandering around the gardens and still miss a few sections. Here’s the ultimate guide to seeing the entire garden up close and personal.

Grand Parc and Royal Promenade

After you exit the Palace, you will be greeted by the sight of the Grand Parc and Royal Promenade with fountains and sculptures dotted all over. Walk amongst the sculptures and the manicured gardens with flower beds in the shape of a fleur-de-lis. You will feel as if you’ve stepped back in time, and Marie Antoinette could wander past at any moment. After walking around the main garden area, walk along the crushed gravel path to Petit Trianon.

Petit Trianon

This smaller estate was where Marie Antoinette spent a lot of her time. The gardens around Petit Trianon are not as stylized and have more bursts of wildflowers.

Arrive at the Palace early in the morning to avoid the crowds, and to give yourself sufficient time to wander the grounds.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and for most of us, that means staying in with our special someone. Just because you can’t travel abroad doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a romantic staycation in your own city. Here are some staycation ideas to get you started.

Local Hotels

A lot of hotels are running local deals right now. That means you can enjoy the hotel experience at a fraction of the cost. Some of these even offer Valentine’s Day specials that feature chocolate, champagne, and flowers.

Unique Airbnbs

Every city, state, or province has some unique Airbnbs if you scroll hard enough. Look for a converted bus, a tiny home, a treehouse, or even a yurt in your location. You can pack up your vehicle with all of the goodies you need for a romantic home-cooked meal, some stargazing, and curling up next to your significant other.

Stay at Home

You don’t have to leave your house or apartment to enjoy a staycation either. Choose a theme, and decorate your living room or kitchen to match it. Then you can make some dishes to match the theme and some delicious festive cocktails.

It will be a holiday to remember!

Running the length of Zambia and Tanzania are the rail tracks that Tazara Railway follows. This unique railway connects Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania and Kapiri Mposhi, Zambia. If you’ve dreamed of seeing Southern Africa by rail, then this is the trip you have to take.

Good to Know

You can choose to start in Zambia or Tanzania, but most travelers prefer to finish in Dar Es Salaam, where you can then take a ferry or flight to Zanzibar for some beach time.

The train does not operate daily but instead operates twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. Don’t rely on the timetable, though, because this train often runs late. You can expect to spend anywhere from two to four days on the train if you travel from start to finish without jumping off.

There are also different classes, which offer various levels of comfort. If you’re planning to do this trip, be aware that there is no air conditioning and you should bring some food with you.

While it may not be the most comfortable of rides, it does give travelers a unique look into the geography of the region. You will see the ocean, grasslands, and if you’re really lucky, some elephants roaming in the distance.

For some people, coffee is something they cannot live without. That’s why certain coffee-producing countries like Ethiopia, Vietnam, and Brazil attract coffee connoisseurs every year. However, the tropical state of Hawaii has a growing coffee scene that coffee lovers should be eager to sample. Here are a couple of plantations that offer daily tours, and samples of their beans.

Kauai Coffee

On the garden island known as Kauai, Kauai Coffee has quickly become one of the top attractions for visitors to the island. You can take a tour of the plantation via an open-air bus for $25 and learn about the lifecycle of coffee beans, from tree to cup. There is also a complimentary walking tour, with free coffee samples served inside of the main office.

Mountain Thunder Coffee Plantation

If you head over to the Big Island, you can sample some of the Kona grown coffees from Mountain Thunder Coffee Plantation. Due to the fact that the island has two active volcanoes, the area in which these coffee beans are grown is one of the lushest in the world. That rich soil can be tasted in every cup. There are free tours every hour, and for an additional cost, you can take a tour of the coffee fields and the nearby lava tubes.

While travel is slowly coming back to our lives there are still social distancing measures that need to be followed for many countries. If you want a vacation where you can let loose with your closest friends, and still enjoy the sun and the sand, book a yacht with The Yacht Week.

The Yacht Week is hosted in a number of destinations throughout the year, amond them are Croatia, Greece, Sardinia, British Virgin Islands, and Montenegro. Sailors from around the globe head to their designated boat, with the crew of their choice (think your nearest and dearest friends).

From there, you and your crew sail from sun-soaked port to sun-soaked port. Along the way, you meet fellow sailors who are also a part of The Yacht Week. At night, the sailboats moor together in a flotilla and spend the evening cooking up delicious food, blasting great music, and simply enjoying life.

The Boats

Of course, you are probably wondering what the sailboats are like. They are top of the line vessels, and all of them feature private cabins, berths, and full bathrooms. Each boat is equipped with a skipper who will teach the crew how to sail, and if you already know how then it will be that much easier. A crew spot starts at $520 for the week, but there are special prices for crews who want to rent an entire yacht.

There are millions of neat little items that you can bring on a trip that will help keep you safe and make life easier as a whole. Here are our top travel picks for 2021.

Serowii Toothbrush Sanitizer — $20

If you’re heading off to a country that doesn’t have drinkable tap water, then a toothbrush sanitizer is an excellent travel accessory. Not only does it protect your toothbrush while you travel, but it sanitizes it after each use. Sometimes we forget to brush our teeth with bottled water, and the sanitizer kills any nasty parasites that might decide to live on your toothbrush.

Aevo Makeup Mirror — $25

For the traveler heading off on a long backpacking trip, you might want to consider bringing a light-up travel mirror along. If you’re staying in a hostel, you might not have easy access to a mirror. This light-up mirror is rechargeable with a USB cord and has a battery option. Since it lights up, you can also use it as a flashlight if you need to.

No Touch Door Opener — $10

As the pandemic continues, a no-touch door opener that also works as a keychain is definitely an item you want handy. A variety of companies make these, and they’re perfect for opening public bathroom doors, hotel doors, and anything else you may not want to touch.

Singapore is a cosmopolitan center full of amazing culinary experiences. However, there is one immersive dining experience that stands out from the rest, and that is Andsoforth

The Experience

Each year, the Andsoforth team chooses books, themes, and historical events that they want to create an immersive culinary experience around. In the past, some of the experiences have focused on Valhalla and the Chamber of Asgard, as well as Dinner in Wonderland. Each experience involves actors dressed in full costume, some kind of show or mystery that the dinner guests must be involved in, and culinary delights that match the theme. The best part is that dinner guests don’t even know where the experience will be held until 24 hours beforehand.

The Upcoming Theme

If you find yourself in Singapore this March, consider signing up for the next immersive experience. The theme will be a book analysis of Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days. Guests will be greeted by actors in full costume and cuisine to match the various locales that are mentioned in the novel. Ticket prices start at $148, which includes five dishes and two alcoholic drinks.

Netflix’s Shonda Rhimes produced series Bridgerton is the hottest series on the streaming service right now. Set in Regency England, each scene features a beautiful old manor house or estate somewhere in the United Kingdom. After a bit of research, we have found the historic homes where some of our favorite Bridgertons, Hastings, and everyone in-between resides.

Castle Howard — York

In episode 5, Simon and Daphne head to the countryside to live at their ducal seat, known as Clyvedon Castle. In reality, the castle is known as Castle Howard, and was built in 1701. It still belongs to a branch of the Howard family.

Rangers’ House — London

The Bridgertons live in a lovely house with wisteria shading the front of it in the show. The house itself is called Rangers’ House and is set next to Greenwich Park in London. For fans of the show, you can visit the house as it has the Wernher Collection of Art on display.

Wilton House — Salisbury

Another country estate which features prominently in the show is Lady Danbury’s home. This great house was built in 1544, and belongs to the Earl of Pembroke’s family. The house was also featured in The Crown.

We’re sure a Bridgerton House Tour is in the works, and once travel gets going again, fans will be able to visit all of these esteemed residences. For now, we will all have to live vicariously through the show!

Whether you’re going on a long road trip, sitting in a train, or tucked into a seat on an airplane, you always need to feel comfy. Wearing tight clothes that squeeze your body won’t make for a comfy trip. Just like going out for a night on the town, you also need to plan your traveling outfit to perfection.

Athleisure Wear

Yoga pants and sweatsuits aren’t just for the gym or lounging around at home. The spandex in athletic clothing allows your body to expand or compress depending on how it’s feeling. Wearing tight jeans will not make your stomach feel very good if you have to sit upright in them for 16 hours. Sweatsuits are another great option, as they are warm, and you can layer them depending on whether you are too cold or too hot.

Compression Socks

A lot of people don’t think about wearing compression socks, but if you fly a lot then you may want to add these to your outfit. They’re easy to conceal under the pants, and they keep your ankles and feet from swelling during long flights. This also helps reduce the risk of blood clots, which some medications can make travelers more susceptible to.

You may not look like you’ve walked off of the pages of a fashion magazine, but you will be comfortable the entire flight.
