Carturesti Carusel is Bucharest’s Paradise For Book Lovers

Just like every other European capital, Bucharest is filled with breathtaking architecture and amazing museums, but it’s also home to many hidden gems that most people aren’t even aware of. The beautiful bookstore Carturesti Carusel is one of them.

Located in the very heart of Bucharest’s old town, this bookstore is actually a part of the popular Romanian chain Cărtureşti. Despite its reputation as one of Bucharest’s most Instagrammable spots, this bookstore has actually been around for less than a decade.

The building where it’s housed is another story—it was built at the beginning of the 20th century as a prime location for the Chrissoveloni Bank headquarters. After a couple of rocky decades, the building was recovered to its old glory and opened its doors to visitors in 2015.

Carturesti Carusel now covers more than 10,000 square feet that will take your breath away with its elegant white walls covered with books. The café on the top floor offers a great view of the entire bookstore, which also serves as a gallery and multimedia space.
