However, the tropical state of Hawaii has a growing coffee scene that coffee lovers should be eager to sample. Here are a couple of plantations that offer daily tours, and samples of their beans.

Kauai Coffee

On the garden island known as Kauai, Kauai Coffee has quickly become one of the top attractions for visitors to the island. You can take a tour of the plantation via an open-air bus for $25 and learn about the lifecycle of coffee beans, from tree to cup. There is also a complimentary walking tour, with free coffee samples served inside of the main office. 

Mountain Thunder Coffee Plantation

If you head over to the Big Island, you can sample some of the Kona grown coffees from Mountain Thunder Coffee Plantation. Due to the fact that the island has two active volcanoes, the area in which these coffee beans are grown is one of the lushest in the world. That rich soil can be tasted in every cup. There are free tours every hour, and for an additional cost, you can take a tour of the coffee fields and the nearby lava tubes.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Southeast Asia was discovered by backpackers following the Hippie Trail, and those areas are still well-traveled to this day. However, if you’re looking for an island paradise that few travelers visit, you should consider booking a trip to the Cook Islands. 

The Cook Islands are a small nation comprised of 15 islands in the south pacific. The biggest island is Rarotonga, and typically where travelers fly in to. The entire region is dotted with stunning coral reefs and rare marine life that has largely remained untouched. Due to this, avid divers and snorkelers try to make their way here at least once in their lifetimes. 

Getting Here

Rarotonga is not an easy place to get to, as only four airlines fly into the small airport. If you want to visit, you can find flights on Air New Zealand, Air Tahiti, Jetstar, and Virgin Australia. Alternatively, if you’re feeling adventurous you can hop on a sailboat and sail to the islands. 

Where To Stay

While you can stay on Rarotonga, a trip to Aitutaki Island is a must. The Pacific Resort Aitutaki is a favorite with travelers looking to get away from the world and enjoy the idyllic jungles and volcanic formations on the island.
