Santiago de Chile is one of our favorite South American destinations. This cosmopolitan capital is full of things to do, and it definitely doesn’t come up short when it comes to museums.

Museum-lovers or those that simply want to learn a little more about Chile’s culture and history have to check out these places on their next trip to this stunning metropolis.

Museum of Memory and Human Rights

One of the darkest periods of Chile’s history was the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet from 1973 to 1990. The Museum of Memory and Human Rights casts a light on the atrocities of the regime and also educates about other human rights crises that have taken place on a global scale.

Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes

Arguably Latin America’s best art museum is the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes. Located in the stunning Palace of Fine Arts, this space showcases works from both South America and specifically Chile.

Planetario Chile

Do you love gazing up into space at planets and stars? If so, you will definitely want to make a stop at Planetario Chile. This planetarium, run by the University of Santiago de Chile, educates about and shows off the wonders of outer space.
