If you’re planning a backpacking expedition, it is important to travel light, not only to avoid baggage fees but to save your back! Backpacking is a great skill to learn if you know how to travel light! Lucky for you, we’ve compiled a short list of tips and tricks to help you travel light.

Pack Outfits

Instead of haphazardly throwing clothes in your bag, pack outfits and solid colors. Pack a few different bottoms and tops all solid colors so they can easily be interchanged. If you buy something new on your trip, leave something behind that isn’t so valuable to you to avoid accumulating things.

One Pair of Shoes

Pick a pair of shoes that match every outfit, are durable, and can sustain over a month of travel. If you’re going on a trip with a lot of hikes, perhaps opt for a pair of hiking boots. You can most likely fill in as well once you get there.

Travel Size Containers and Packing Cubes

Pack travel-size items such as moisturizer, and opt to buy universal things such as toothpaste and other essentials in smaller packages when you arrive at your destination.

Do More Laundry

Pack fewer undergarments and prepare to do more laundry as you go. Several hostels and Airbnb offer laundry services, and if you’re desperate there will always be places to buy fill-ins.
