How Often Should You Keep in Touch With Loved Ones Back Home?

When we travel on our crazy escapades around the world, whether it’s the exotic countries of Southeast Asia or the lush hills of the Italian countryside, it can be easy to “forget” about the real world back home. You get so swept off into the fantasy of everything you’re doing, and you often lose track of time. However, it’s still important to remember that there are people back home who love you and care about you. Here’s how often you should check in on them.

Depends On The Person

This idea isn’t so easily identified, because it’s very subjective depending on the person. For instance, if you’re a high school graduate who’s abroad for a few months, you should probably call your parents at least once a day, or every two days. They’re probably worried sick!

But if you’re in your late 20s, you can probably get away with checking in with them once every four or five days. It’s also important to note that due to advancing technology, our methods of communication are very different than they once were. So even if you’re not necessarily talking to your mom on the phone every day, you can still be letting them know you’re okay by sending a fun picture to the family WhatsApp group.

If you’re married and you’re on a solo trip without your spouse, we think it goes without saying that you should be constantly touching base with him or her. They want to hear from you, and they’re probably thinking about you non-stop!
