There are many reasons people love to travel, from trying out new foods to meeting interesting people. We’re not here to say that one reason is better than the other, but we are here to sing our praises about the benefits of hiking. If you’re going to a new city and haven’t made any plans to hike, here’s why you should reconsider.

Connect With The Local Nature

Getting to know the country you’re visiting is about so much more than looking at a bunch of statues. Sure, getting to know the various aspects of a city’s culture is a huge deal, but it’s also crucial to traverse the natural aspects of the city as well. Some cities have incredible landscapes that don’t get talked about enough, and you’ll only see that by hiking their local mountains.

Exercise While Traveling

It’s easy to fall into the trap of not caring about personal while traveling. We say this with no judgment at all, because there’s nothing more exciting than visiting as many restaurants as you can in cool foreign countries, and trying out new cuisines. That being said, it doesn’t hurt to try and maintain some level of physical health while abroad—and hiking does that for you in spades. In addition to the other benefits we mentioned, you’ll be burning countless calories while trekking steep mountains and treacherous inclines.
