How to Care for Your Skin While Flying

Being 30,000 feet in the air can have an interesting effect on one’s body. Turbulence can cause nausea, sitting for too long may lead to potential clotting, and the change in air pressure can make ears pop. Something else which doesn’t fare too well in the sky? Our skin. Here’s how to protect your body’s largest organ during your flight.

Keep It Clean

Not to freak you out, but planes are like incubators when it comes to bacteria. Being in an enclosed space with other people can lead to germs being spread, so it’s best to keep your person as clean as possible—and that includes your face. Once you’re onboard, remove any makeup and cleanse your face with a product that balances your skin’s pH levels. It’s also a good idea to wash your face again before you disembark.

Moisturize in the Skies

The air-conditioning system aboard an aircraft is fairly involved. In short, ventilation is required to filter the air being breathed, but it can also leave your skin feeling incredibly dry due to having less humidity than the Sahara desert! To prevent your skin feeling like the African landmark, opt for a serum that includes hyaluronic acid and moisturize with a good quality face cream.

Hydration All the Way

This one may seem obvious, but it still has to be said—drink water! Our bodies lose 8 ounces of water per hour during a flight, so keep the fluids flowing. Try to avoid alcohol and food that’s high in salt as these can cause dehydration.
