A massive part of visiting a new country or city is trying our the food. You can tell a lot about a place through its cuisine, which is all the more reason to taste the traditional delicacies. The problem, however, is that as a tourist visiting for just a short time, you can be completely spoilt for choice. How do you pick the perfect place to dine? Like this.

Look for Hidden Gems

Some places will definitely be better known than others. Unfortunately, that usually means that they are overcrowded and sometimes over-priced. Instead, seek out a restaurant in a slightly less popular area (ie. away from the tourist hotspots) with a good vibe and several customers.

The Local Tongue

It may be easier, as a tourist, to choose a place that advertises that it speaks English. But trust us when we say that these are often a tourist trap. Yes, it may be a little trickier to choose a dish from a menu in the local language, but more often than not you will be receiving a more authentic plate of food.

Time and Place

You may have dreams of eating French onion soup in France, but unless you visit in winter, we wouldn’t recommend it. Really great restaurants base their menus on what is fresh and in season, rather than specific dishes that cater to tourists.
