Travel can be light, easy, and fun, life-changing and full of meaning, or anywhere in between. Either way, it’s important to document your experiences somehow, and one of our favorite methods is by keeping a travel journal. You can certainly just write stream-of-consciousness-style about your daily adventures, but if you’re looking for a little inspiration, we’ve compiled a list of some journal prompts that have helped us to dig a little deeper as we reflect before, during, and after big trips. Feel free to pick and choose based on what feels relevant to you or even come up with your own prompts and add them to your list.

Before Questions

How are you feeling regarding this trip? Are you excited? Nervous?

What’s something you feel you must do during this trip?

Is there anyone you’ll miss?

What do you know about your destination? Is there anything you’d like to learn when you get there?

During Questions

What was the best thing you experienced today?

How are you feeling about this trip so far?

What would you like to do tomorrow?

Is there anything that has disappointed you?

After Questions

What is your main takeaway from this trip?

Would you like to visit this location again?

What would you have done differently if you knew?

How do you feel about being home?
