Genoa might not be considered one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy, but that doesn’t mean the city doesn’t have plenty to offer to foreign visitors. It is one of those places that reward curiosity, offering fascinating hidden gems to those willing to put some effort into exploring its streets. Continue reading to find out the best of them.

Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno

Visiting an old cemetery might not be everyone’s idea of a fun tourist activity, but the Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno (Cimitero monumentale di Staglieno) is one place in Genoa you don’t want to miss. It is one of the largest cemeteries in Europe and is full of intricate monuments, sculptures, and ornaments.

D’Albertis Castle

D’Albertis Castle is worth visiting for its exterior alone, having been built in Gothic revival style as the first villa castle in the city of Genoa. However, if you walk inside, you’ll find even more interesting things like the Museum of World Cultures, which houses items from the private collection of the primary owner, captain Enrico Alberto d’Albertis.

Boccadasse

Boccadasse is a small coastal village near Genoa that is well worth the trip. You’ll be impressed with its charming nature, pastel-colored houses, cobblestone streets, and various Medieval villas that dominate the place. Boccadasse was in the running for the UNESCO Heritage Sites list in 2016 but was turned down.
