If you love beer, then the chances are that you already plan to visit the German beer extravaganza Oktoberfest this year. Now, if you are a seasoned Oktoberfest participant, you probably know all do’s and don’ts of this legendary festival. But if you are visiting for the first time, chances are that you might be a bit unfamiliar with how things work there.

Luckily, there is nothing to worry about. You will have a great time at Oktoberfest even as a first-time visitor if you just relax and avoid the following mistakes.

Skipping Lunch

You might be surprised you see this one here, but this is often a crucial mistake all newbies make at Oktoberfest. They get enthusiastic, start drinking without having a proper meal and then end up passed out in a corner of some tent. Learn from their mistakes and always have a filling meal before you start your beer tour.

Trying to Go Cash-Free

If you want to get a beer at Oktoberfest, you’ll need cash since credit cards are not accepted. There are several ATMs scattered around the place, but the lines are usually long, so make sure you have Euros before stepping on the festival grounds.

Being Rude to Servers or Not Tipping

When the crowds start flooding the tents, getting beer becomes a hard task. This is why you should be nice to your servers and tip them. Being kind will go a long way, and you’ll probably get your new round before someone who is rude or doesn’t tip.

Not Being Adventurous

Sitting all day in a tent and sipping on a beer might seem fine to you, but this isn’t what Oktoberfest is all about. You will miss out on plenty of great stuff if you are not adventurous. So make sure you explore all parts of the festival, meet new people, and try different beers.
