Star Wars Fans Must Put Tozeur, Tunisia on Their Bucket List

Star Wars movies weren’t actually filmed in a galaxy far, far away, but in unusual locations around the world. Tunisian city of Tozeur happens to be one of them, and remains from a leftover set can still be found in the desert near the city.

The set once served as a backdrop for the fictional planet of Tatooin and the spaceport of Mos Espa in The Phantom Menace, but it was abandoned in the desert after the filming wrapped up. Some of the structures that were built for the purpose of filming are still around, and they helped Tozeur become a major tourist attraction.

This wasn’t the only Star Wars movie filmed in Tunisia, and filming locations are actually scattered all around the country. You can even book a tour from Tozeur that covers several filming locations in a single day.

This city became pretty popular with Hollywood directors, and Star Wars wasn’t the only hit franchise filmed here. So was the first Indiana Jones film Raiders of the Lost Ark, and the Oscar-winning drama The English Patient.
