With summer finally here, we cannot wait to hit the beach. It’s easy to spend the entire day with your toes in the warm sand, but when it gets too hot, it surely calls for a dip in the waves. The only problem is, what do you do with your belongings?

If you have someone with you, they can guard your stuff while you frolic in the sea. But if they choose to join you or you’re alone, you’ve got a problem on your hands. Here are some clever ways to keep your things safe.

Make Friends

Strike up a conversation with beach-goers around you and ask if they wouldn’t mind keeping an eye on your belongings. As incentive, you can offer to watch theirs when they choose to take a swim.

Buried Treasure

Who needs pirates when you can bury your belongings? Find a discreet spot, dig a shallow hole in the sand, and bury your bag, covering it with a towel or a plastic bag to keep it from getting sandy. Just make sure to remember where you buried it, or you might have your own treasure hunt when you’re ready to leave.

Bulked-Up Blanket

Your beach blanket can do more than provide a spot for you to lay down. If you are crafty, sew in some hidden pockets or create compartments using waterproof fabric. That way, you can stash your phone, wallet, and keys safely under the surface of your blanket and no one will be any the wiser.

When you go on a beach vacation, you will probably see some people surfing. Maybe they’re pros, or you might even see groups of beginners go out and take lessons. Either way, surfing can seem like a really daunting activity that is only meant for people who are super athletic or have a deep love for the ocean. While this is a great sport for people who fit this description, it can also be a really great activity for those just looking for some fun on a beach vacation!

There are so many reasons to sign up for surfing lessons, but one of the greatest ones is to simply challenge yourself. When was the last time you tried something new that you knew you would be bad at in the beginning? If you’re like the rest of the world, it has probably been a while. Surfing is a great way to let yourself fail and get back up. You will build resilience, and when you finally stand up on that board, you will feel so much better because you truly worked hard to get there.

There’s also a calming aspect to sitting on a board waiting for the perfect wave. Even if you spend the whole lesson without success in standing up, you’ll walk away feeling proud of yourself for trying and rejuvenated from being in flow with the water.

Europe boasts some of the most glorious coasts in the world. From Greece’s olive-grove lined shores, to the towering cliffs of the Algarve, a beach holiday in Europe will never disappoint. If you’re looking to catch some late-summer sun, or plannng ahead for next year, check out these must-see destinations.

Nazare, Portugal

Famous for its giant waves (between March and October the waves can reach heights of 100 feet), this small Portugese town has plenty to offer, even if you have no interest in surfing. Climb to the top of the ancient fortress for stunning views out over the sea, wander through the streets of the old town, and sample some of its local delicacies including octopus. There are beaches with calm waters in Nazare, meaning you can even get a spot of swimming done, too.

Split, Croatia

Why not combine a city with a beach break? Split is built on Roman ruins, and retains much of its ancient charms and beauty. You can easily catch boats to stunning islands which lie just off the coast. Or, split your time between sunbathing on the beach and the city’s many museums and galleries. You’ll be spoilt for choice in terms of where to eat, too.

Red Beach, Santorini

Santorini is one of the most popular Greek islands, and this beach is perhaps its most famous. Stunning rock formations provide this beach with the ‘red’ in its name. You can park on the cliff above the beach and walk down, admiring the striking colors all the way. If you’re getting in the water, take a snorkelling set, as the interesting rock formations and colors continue beneath the waves,

Many countries in Europe boast beautiful beaches, but the three listed here all offer that something extra special. Portugal, Croatia, and Greece will stay warm well into the fall, so don’t assume you’ve missed your chance to visit this year.

Beach days are often the best way to spend a hot day. But there are some ways to make sure they go even better. After all, no one wants to eat sand or end up taking half the beach home with them when they leave, right?

Say No to Sandy Sandwiches

Sandwiches are an easy thing to take to the beach as they don’t require cutlery and are always filling. The ingredients between the bread are the star of the show, but the last thing you want is to have that tomato slide out onto the sand. Instead, chop up all your fillings; this will keep everything where it’s meant to be, and you’ll get all the flavors with each bite.

Keep It Clean

Littering on the beach is a big no-no, but it can also be tricky to find a trash can. Make your own by taking an empty cleaning wipes container and filling it with rolled-up trash bags. Whip one out when you need and throw away your garbage responsibly.

Leave the Beach Where it is

Going to the beach is super fun. Taking sand home with you, less fun. Make a DIY sand remover by filling an old sock with talcum powder and tying a knot. Then, run it along any areas of your body covered with sand and watch it magically come off!

While touring ancient sites, enjoying the nightlife, and tasting scrumptious food are all great parts of a vacation, sometimes, you need to take a breather. What better way to do so than soaking in the sun at the beach? Here are some of the best beaches where you can recharge on your next vacation in Cyprus.

Golden Beach

The most remote beach in all of Cyprus, Golden Beach is located on the far northeastern coastline of the island. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, this beach is the ideal place to breathe in the salty sea air and unwind. In addition to enjoying the sensation of lying atop the soft golden sand, you may also catch a glimpse of wildlife in the distance such as loggerhead turtles and wild donkeys.

Aphrodite’s Beach

Home to the Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite’s Rock), this is the beach where mythology and relaxation meet. According to legend, the Greek goddess Aphrodite first emerged from the sea from this very spot. When you’re done relaxing on the beach, there are plenty of great lookout spots to capture the perfect holiday Instagram snapshot.

Coral Bay

Just a 20-minute drive from the vibrant city of Paphos, Coral Bay is ideal if you’re looking for a mix of relaxation and entertainment. In addition to its ideal waters for swimming, this beach has an array of loungers, umbrellas, and even water sports equipment for rent. There are also plenty of restaurants in the vicinity to satisfy your appetite.

Mallorca, Spain is best known for its stunning coastline and beaches that put everywhere else to shame. If you plan on going to Mallorca, we highly recommend spending time visiting as many calas as you can. Calas are little bays on the coastline of the Mediterranean, and Mallorca has no shortage of beautiful ones! Here are some of the best calas in Mallorca.

Calo des Moro

Calo des Moro is easily one of the most stunning spots in all of Mallorca. Its crystal clear waters and steep cliffs make for the most picturesque day at the beach. You won’t be able to believe your eyes when you arrive!

Cala Pi

If you want to get the coolest Instagram photo of all time, you must stop at Cala Pi. There is a ledge you can dangle your feet off of, and you can capture the turquoise cala in the background. It is a stunning sight, and sure to make everyone who sees it think you are on the vacation of a lifetime (and you are!).

Cala Mondrago

Cala Mondrago is another spot that will have you thinking that you just walked into a perfect Google image, not real life. This cala is also great for snorkeling or exploring caves around the cliffs. It’s also a natural park!
