]]>In the books, Harry boards The Hogwarts Express at King’s Cross station in London, but in the movies, the same scenes were shot at Fort William station in Scotland. Today, aspiring witches and wizards can experience the magic for themselves with a ride on the Jacobite steam train. The Jacobite was used as the Hogwarts Express in the films and crosses over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, another spot shown along Harry’s journey to Hogwarts.
Harry spends a great deal of time in the home of his half-giant friend Hagrid throughout the books and movies. In several of the series’ films, scenes of Hagrid’s hut were shot in Clachaig Gully in Glencoe, Scotland. While the set is now on display at the Harry Potter Studio in London, fans can still enjoy a stunning view of the lake and forest surrounding where Hagrid’s Hut once was.
Those wishing to pay their respects to the greatest headmaster in Hogwarts history can visit Dumbledore’s grave on Eilean na Moine, an island in Loch Eilt in the Scottish West Highlands. This is where the headmaster was laid to rest in the sixth film, and it’s a peaceful and tranquil spot that’s worth visiting for any Potter fan.

]]>If you want to see Harry Potter world in its entirety in Orlando, you’ll need to buy two different tickets: one for Universal Studios and another for Islands of Adventure. This is because the former is home to Diagon Alley, the wizarding shopping center where you can see Gringotts bank, among other attractions; and the latter is home to Hogsmeade, the wizarding village where you can visit all kinds of stores and even visit Hogwarts Castle.
The point is, most true Harry Potter fans would rather see both, but tickets are generally pretty expensive. If you don’t mind paying double to get into both parks, awesome! But it’s good to be aware of it in any case, because others who aren’t may end up disappointed after learning that the Harry Potter attraction they wanted to see was in the other Universal theme park.

The Cauldron is an immersive, experiential bar where “witches and wizards” can learn how to brew their own molecular “potion” cocktails. It’s not technically affiliated with the HP universe, but will still have you feeling like you’ve entered Snape’s dungeon.
Enigma Quests Escape Room has an entire 60-minute challenge modeled after life at Hogwarts. Aptly titled “School of Witchcraft and Wizardry,” the room is filled with challenges designed to test players’ cleverness and bravery.

]]>Yes, it would seem prudent to put all of the Harry Potter destinations in the same place. But the corporate suits of Universal felt like more money would get generated if they separated it into two parks. Thus, if you want to visit Hogsmeade and the Hogwarts Castle, you need to buy tickets for Universal’s Islands of Adventure—and if you want to visit Diagon Alley, you must also buy tickets to Universal Studios, a completely different theme park.
However, if you do get tickets to either of these parks, or both for that matter, you won’t be disappointed. The level of detail and ambiance seen in these Harry Potter parks is truly impeccable, from the Gringotts Bank to the popular Three Broomsticks pub. The nerd in you won’t be able to contain his or her excitement.
Speaking of Three Broomsticks, if you’re looking to taste some delicious butterbeer while you’re in the park, you should know that there are three different kinds you can try. One of them is similar to that of a coffee—a hot drink if you will. Another is more of a cold soda-style drink, and has more of an actual beer’s temperament. And finally, there’s one that’s probably the most popular: a slushy butterbeer interpretation that’ll cool you down on a hot summer’s day.
It’s not just the visuals and food that are amazing. The rides is these Harry Potter parks are truly innovative and thrilling. From Flight of the Hippogriff to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, you won’t be disappointed.

]]>One thing you don’t want to skip when visiting the theme park is the food. Who can forget Harry’s first trip on the Hogwarts Express, where he was introduced to the wizarding world via the trolley? It was this iconic scene where we as readers “tasted” our first Chocolate Frogs (and collected our first collectible cards), were intrigued/discussed by Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour Beans, and gobbled up a Cauldron Cake.
From pumpkin juice to Butterbeer, to dinner in the Great Hall where food magically appears and disappears, there are plenty of unforgettable Harry Potter food experiences unique to JK Rowling’s fantasy world.
You can expect these treats to pop up in Orlando’s Wizarding World. Indeed, the food in the Wizarding World is not like your typical theme park food. Well thought out, it is indicative of the Harry Potter books and adds to the overall fantasy experience. Snack and drink carts are readily available and themed restaurants, such as the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade and the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley will make you feel like you yourself have been accepted into the wizarding world.
“You want these beverages to be cool, and I don’t mean cold,” stressed the corporate executive chef of Universal Orlando Parks and Resorts, Steven Jayson, in an interview with USAtoday. “You want them to be neat. You want people to see them and be excited and say, ‘I’ve got to try that.’ And then when they get it, they’re excited about what they got, that they love it.”
It comes as no surprise that the Butterbeer offered at the theme park proved to be the ultimate treat in Orlando. Consisting of a cream soda-meets-butterscotch flavor and a sweet whipped topping, Butterbeer originally came in two versions: cold and frozen. “We found out very, very quickly when we opened that Butterbeer was definitely an overnight homerun,” said Jayson. “Hands down, that’s the one thing that we’ve created here at Universal Orlando that stands alone.”

If you’re looking for something quieter, Hogsmeade is the place to go. Similar to the books, this is where you’ll be able to have a butterbeer in the Broomstick Inn (a knockoff of the Three Broomsticks), check out the village, and even visit Hogwarts Castle! As far as rides go, one highlight here is “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey”.

Livraria Lello’s neo-Gothic interior features a curvaceous staircase, carved wood paneling, and breathtaking stained glass windows and ceiling. It’s been rumored that this bookstore served as inspiration for Hogwarts and the Flourish and Blotts bookshop in the Harry Potter novels, but J. K. Rowling never confirmed this.
