Ireland is famous for its stunning scenery and ancient, almost mythical, sites. From Bronze Age ruins to medieval castles, if you’re a history fan Ireland has more than enough to offer you. Check out three of the most interesting historical sites to explore in Ireland.

Newgrange

Older than the Egyptian pyramids and Stone Henge, this Bronze Age burial site is located in County Meath. Situated beside a river in green countryside, the site is both fascinating and peaceful. The burial site must have been for someone incredibly important – archaeologists believe it would have taken the Neolithic people almost 30 years to construct!

Hill Of Tara

This site is incredibly famous as the location where the kings of Ireland were once crowned. It is also an ancient burial site, and features prominently within several Irish myths and legends. It lives up to its name, as its incredibly steep, but the views make the climb worth it.

Glendalough

The ruins of a church and monastery date from the 11th century, but there are records of a monastic community here dating back to the 6th century. Situated amongst a green, wooded valley, the landscape and the ruins compete here for your attention and admiration.

Ireland is a country of natural beauties and ancient wonders, so make the most of the Emerald Isle and start exploring some of these incredible sites.

Ireland is a stunning country, offering wild coastlines, beautiful mountains, and tiny villages nestled in the hills. If you’re visiting the Emerald Isle, check out these national parks which offer visitors a true taste of Ireland.

Glenveagh National Park

Situated at the center of County Donegal, visit this park for wide open landscapes, stunning views of the sea, and the awe-inspiring Derryveagh Mountains. Experience pristine ancient forests, waterfalls, valley and ridge walks, and visit Glenveagh Castle to learn more about the area’s history and culture.

Killarney National Park

This national park includes McGillycuddy’s Reeks, the highest mountain range in Ireland. Situated just to the south of the town of Killarney, in County Kerry, this park offers some serious hiking opportunities. Visit the world famous Lakes of Killarney, stroll through the ancient Reenadinna Woods, or visit some of the ancient buildings and structures in this area such as Muckross House or Ross Castle.

Burren National Park

Head to County Claire for an otherwordly experience at Burren National Park. ‘Burren’ draws its name from an Irish word which means ‘rocky place’, and across this park the limestone layer is easy to see. However, in many parts the ‘rocky place’ has been covered over with rare plants and trees, making this an internationally important zone for flora. Tread carefully and stay on the paths to experience the stunning range of plants in this strange, otherworldly park.

Irish food isn’t exactly known for being the most vegan-friendly in Europe. Some of the country’s most popular dishes include meat stews, shepherd’s pie, and seafood chowders, many of which also contain copious amounts of butter and cream. While it’s true that many traditional Irish dishes are heavy on animal products, that hasn’t stopped the Irish capital from embracing the plant-based trend in recent years. Dublin has become a hub of vegan cuisine ranging from veg-friendly takes on Irish classics to innovative new dishes inspired by other global cuisines. Read on for some of our favorite vegan Dublin eateries.

Cornucopia

Cornucopia was plant-based before it was cool, having opened its doors as Dublin’s first vegan market and cafe in 1986. Today, the restaurant remains a 100% family-run business offering a simple, nourishing menu full of whole food plant-based dishes. We love their tofu scramble on toast with a vegan caesar salad on the side.

It’s a Trap

For coffee, pastries, and light bites, be sure to check out It’s a Trap, a tiny coffee shop and grocery store offering a wide variety of vegan goods from around the world. Their vegan Reuben and Korean BBQ wraps are our favorites for lunch, and a shot of espresso alongside one of their classic cinnamon buns makes for a perfect afternoon pick-me-up.

The Saucy Cow

Don’t let the name fool you—no cows were harmed in the making of any of The Saucy Cow’s food. This restaurant in the city’s Temple Bar neighborhood offers plant-based versions of fast food favorites. Keep it simple with a mushroom burger, or spice things up and try their vegan pulled pork tacos.

Because of a Saint who lived during the 3rd century, February has come to be known as the month of love. As commercialized as you may believe the holiday to be, everyone likes getting chocolate and flowers now and again. In some parts of the world, Valentine’s Day is a massive celebration, while others tend to celebrate love a little differently.

The Philippines

As legend goes, the Roman emperor, Claudius II, forbid young soldiers to marry in the 3rd century as he believed single men made better soldiers. It was Saint Valentine who then secretly married them to their lovers. In this vein, the Filipino government sponsors a gala event every Valentine’s Day during which young couples get wed.

South Korea

No one does Valentine’s Day quite like South Korea. It is traditional for women to give men chocolates on February 14, while men give women non-chocolate candy a month later on March 14, known as White Day. Those who didn’t receive anything on either occasion then “celebrate” Black Day by eating black noodles on April 14 to lament their singleness.

Ireland

Haven’t found the one yet? Those seeking true love make a pilgrimage to the Shrine of St. Valentine in Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church in Dublin where one can find the relic of Saint Valentine of Rome. Hopeful pilgrims pray at the shrine and write a prayer request for love in a special book.

Visiting Ireland is always a good idea, regardless of the time of the year. The country will stun you with its beautiful landscapes, intriguing architecture, vibrant culture, and, of course, beer. However, before you board on flight to Emerald Isle, there are some things you should know.

 It’s Not the UK

Ireland borders the UK through Northern Ireland, but it’s not part of it. The country is in the European Union, so it shares the EU’s currency and most regulations. U.S. citizens can enter the country without a visa and stay there for up to 90 days.

Ireland is Expensive

Don’t expect the trip to Ireland to be cheap. The country is quite expensive for tourists, with accommodation prices being particularly high.

It Rains a Lot

You can expect rain on any given day in Ireland. The weather can be unpredictable even during the summer, so make sure you have an umbrella or a raincoat ready in your backpack.

There is So Much to See and Do

If you really want to get to know the country, you shouldn’t limit yourself to just one city or a place. Ireland offers so much to see and do, especially in the countryside, so consider renting a car and taking a road trip or two.

Thinking of going on a road trip? TikTok has you covered. If you search the term #roadtrip on the social media platform, you’ll find at least 11.2 billion hits, so you know there is tons of travel inspo to choose from! But with so much content, it can get a little overwhelming…

Thankfully, the guys at Auto Trader in the UK have analyzed the data and compiled a list of the top places around the world to hit the road.

Route 66 — United States

It’s hardly surprising that Route 66 ranked as the most popular road trip destination. After all, the highway that travels cross-country, from Chicago to Santa Monica, was the inspiration behind Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. With dozens of quirky motels and peculiar sites, you definitely won’t be bored.

Big Sur — United States

The coastal region of California is a sight to behold. Known for its rugged mountains, redwood forests, and beaches, Big Sur has been deemed “an isolated stretch of road, mythic in reputation.” Be sure to heck out the Bixby Creek Bridge and Point Sur Lightstation.

Wild Atlantic Way — Ireland

Stepping away from the States, and stretching from Cork to Donegal, the Wild Atlantic Way is the longest road trip in Ireland. The 1,500-mile journey includes cliffs, beaches, hiking spots, and a dark sky reserve!

Let’s be honest: modern dating sucks. Swiping culture has overtaken actual introductions, scamming is a real concern, and ghosting is as common as courtesy is not. It’s a hard time to be single and looking for love.

But for those who are over what 2022 is dishing out in the dating department, and still hoping to find someone IRL, you’re in luck!

Ireland is hosting the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival during September, where singles can mingle and hopefully find their match.

The festival began in 1857, when the upper-class would venture to the spa town of Lisdoonvarna to soak in the healing waters while chit-chatting about suitable matches for their children. How very Bridgerton-esque.

Social gatherings, sporting events, and musical evenings were held in a bid to encourage courtship, and the idea has continued to modern times.

Although COVID-19 put the activities on hold for two years, the festival is back and once again the scene for dancing, drinking, and mingling! The vibe is created by international DJs and Ireland’s top musicians who perform for the 40,000 people that flock to the small village.

Another massive draw is the famous matchmaker, Willie Daly, who has brought about 3,000 marriages during his 50 years in the biz. Daly relies on his “lucky book” filled with profiles, with the rumor being that those who touch it will find love within six months.

The Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival runs from September 2nd to 30th
