If there’s one country that’s not short of luxurious holiday destinations, it’s Italy. Given its rich and extensive history, Italy is filled with breathtaking sites that are sure to satisfy the palates of those travelers in search of extravagance. So, if you’re looking for a taste of royalty, then here are some royal palaces in Italy that you won’t want to miss.

Royal Palace Of Naples

Constructed in 1584, the Royal Palace of Naples served as the home of the Royal Family of Savoy until the unification of Italy. Since then, several kings of Naples have resided there, each of whom added several artworks and architectural feats to the stunning palace. Today, the palace houses a museum, an extensive collection of artwork, and the National Library.

Norman Palace

Overlooking the coastline of the island of Sicily, Norman Palace was home to several kings of Sicily from the Hauteville dynasty. Both a fortress and a house of luxury, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is the oldest royal residence in Europe.

Royal Palace Of Turin

Built in the 16th century, the Royal Palace of Turin houses an extensive range of tapestries, furniture, and immaculately-groomed gardens, all dating back to the Royal Family of Savoy. Today, this historic building houses an impressive art collection, an armory, and the Royal Museums of Turin.

With the rolling hills of Tuscany, the birthplace of Leonardo De Vinci, and old villages, this area of Italy has so much to explore. There is so much to see and do, and not just drink wine at a winery. Here are some hidden gems you should check out on your next trip to Italy.

Pitigliano

Located in southern Tuscany, Pitigliano captures why we love Italy. This town stands out within volcanic stone and history, dating back to Neolithic times. Pitigliano plays a massive role in Jewish history, dating back to the Second World War. As a result, it was nicknamed ‘Little Jerusalem’. It is an excellent place for those interested in history and museums, with the coast being an hour’s drive away.

Lajatico

Lajatico is located a short forty minutes drive from Florence. Is considered the opera capital and the birthplace of the critically acclaimed Andrea Bocelli. Here is where Andera built an amphitheater, ‘ Teatro del Silenzio’. It is possible to see concerts here all year, so check one out if you are in the area. Additionally, Lajatico has plenty of cafes and shops to enjoy in the city’s winding small paths.

Saturnia Hot Springs

These hot springs are located six kilometers outside Saturnia and are known for their rich Greek origins. These thermal springs are rich in mineral deposits (which do give a sulfur-eggy smell, you have been warned). The water temperatures can reach up to 37.5 degrees Celsius. However, these pools are free to enter at the Cascate del Mulino. There are no changing rooms and limited parking, so come dressed early to grab a spot before it gets too crowded.

Italy is one of the most exotic and interesting countries you can travel to. From the historical landmarks to the incredible cuisine, it truly is a dream. If you’re a foodie, you’ll probably have the time of your life, but there are still some things you should know when you go there. The culture there isn’t quite like the way it is in other places in the world, which is why we’re here to offer you this one tip: at restaurants, don’t take your food to go.

It doesn’t matter if you think the food was as delicious as ever. We get it. Sometimes the food is incredible, but since you ate so much you’re unable to finish it all. After all, what’s wrong with saving some of it for later? This is a concept that’s a lot easier for people in America to understand, but not so much in Italy.

They take their food very seriously over there, and things are a lot more proper. We highly recommend that you eat everything on your plate and not ask for a “doggy bag”, as some like to call it because they’ll see it as offensive to them and their establishment.

Every country thinks its coffee culture is the best, but only one can call itself the place where espresso originated. Coffee is not something Italians take lightly. There are rules about what to order when and tons of terminology that can make ordering even simple drinks feel complicated. There are even certain customs that are specific to each region. If you’re traveling to Italy and want to make sure the barista gets your order right the first time, you’ll need to be prepared. Here are some tips we’ve found helpful when visiting the Bel Paese.

Don’t Order a Latte

In Italian, the word “latte” literally just means milk, so if you walk into a coffee shop and ask for a latte, don’t be surprised when the barista hands you a cup of dairy. Instead, ask them to make you a caffè latte, which is espresso with steamed milk and a little foam.

No Milk After Morning

Italians don’t drink their coffee with milk after 11 a.m., so order your cappuccino early to avoid sticking out as a tourist.

Try Something New

If you’re looking to try something fun and you’ve never had a caffè corretto, consider giving this drink of espresso served with a splash of alcohol a shot after dinner.

Italy is a dream destination for many tourists who appreciate their unique culture, cuisine, history, and lifestyle. In case you’re planning to visit this Mediterranean country in the near future here are a few common tourist mistakes to avoid.

Not Knowing Dining Etiquette

Learn more about Italian dining etiquette before traveling to this country because Italians value their food and customs. For example, it is not customary to order tap water or to drink cappuccino with a meal in a restaurant.

Not Carrying Cash

Always make sure to bring some cash with you because you’re likely to find amazing food stands and small shops that do not accept cards.

Not Booking Skip-The-Line Ticket

Most tourists want to visit The Vatican Museum, The Rome Colosseum, or The Uffizi Gallery when in Rome but waiting in line to see all these attractions is a complete waste of time. Instead, you can book in advance and get a skip-the-line ticket that will help you avoid waiting in lines for hours.

Not Having Roma Pass

If you want to visit major attractions that we’ve already mentioned then it’s definitely worth investing in Roma Pass because this simple trick will save you time and money on tickets.
