On a hill in the Los Feliz neighborhood in LA, you’ll find the Ennis House: a double attraction for both film and architecture buffs. With more than 80 movie appearances, this architectural gem is the last and largest of Frank Lloyd Wright’s “textile block” houses in Los Angeles. So, what do you need to know about it before you visit?

Representing Mayan Revival

Built in 1924, the Ennis House boasts Mayan Revival architecture, standing as a prime example of Wright’s innovative approach. Rising gradually with over 27,000 concrete blocks, it’s a vertical marvel supported by a retaining wall. Wright’s use of concrete in the 1920s, a novel idea for home construction, showcased his belief in its potential for affordable housing.

Unique Design Blend

The concrete blocks, hand-cast from on-site gravel, granite, and sand, feature a unique woven pattern, both inside and out. The Greek key design, a nod to Charles Ennis’s Masonic affiliation, adds another unique touch to this architectural masterpiece.

Hollywood’s Favorite Backdrop

Beyond its architectural significance, the Ennis House is a true Hollywood superstar, gracing the scenes of Mulholland Drive, Rush Hour, and Blade Runner, to name a few. The house’s mysterious allure has made it a canvas for filmmakers and commercials alike.

To many wide-eyed travelers around the world, Los Angeles is a place where celebrities sip matcha tea at fancy coffeehouses, where stars attend Hollywood parties, and where the homeless set up camp up every other street corner. However, there’s a lot more to LA than people realize. If you know where to look, there is plenty of wholesomeness to be found!

The Beautiful Nature

With all of the glitz and glamour coming from Hollywood’s shadow, many have no clue that LA is home to some of the most beautiful nature in America. This nature can be enjoyed on a multitude of trails or hikes, from Runyon Canyon to Griffith Park.

Family Friendly Activities

There are also countless things you can do with your family in LA, such as take a walk along the Santa Monica Pier, before enjoying an ice cream cone and a ride on the roller coaster (not necessarily in that order).

Warm Communities

And finally, another reason LA is a wholesome city is that it’s home to a diverse range of warm communities. Just because the world only associates the City of Angels with stars and celebs doesn’t mean there aren’t thousands of other citizens who live modest lives and contribute to society in their own way.

Los Angeles offers countless amazing spots worth exploring, but its surroundings are just as impressive as the city itself. If you want to extend your visit by exploring some nearby coastal cities in California, here are three charming destinations that will win you over with their scenic beauty.

Malibu

Located northwest of Los Angeles, Malibu needs no special introduction because many celebrities who have lavish homes here put it on the map. This upscale neighborhood may be known as the safe haven of the Hollywood elite, but it’s also renowned for its stunning beaches, scenic coast, and countless surfing spots.

Long Beach

If you’re visiting California with your entire family, this city is the ultimate kid-friendly destination. A visit to the former ocean liner the Queen Mary, which has been transformed into a restaurant and hotel, is a must. You should also check out the old-school theme park Knott’s Berry Farm and Aquarium of the Pacific.

Newport Beach

Newport Beach is located further away from LA than the previous two cities, but it’s worth the ride. In addition to being known for its amazing sandy beaches, Newport Beach is worth visiting for the nearby Crystal Cove State Park and Balboa Island.

Out of all the various hotspots in Los Angeles, one of the most prominent is the Hollywood sign. Hollywood itself is well-known as the hub for movie and TV stars, from the Oscars to other red-carpet events. However, when it comes to the Hollywood sign, it’s not exactly super easily accessible. So can you take a picture with the sign, and if not, what can you do?

You Can Get Pretty Darn Close

There isn’t a built-in path that allows one to access the sign itself—and by that, we mean actually standing next to it and touching it. If you want to do that, you’d need to hike up a steep incline of trees, bushes, and shrubbery. But this isn’t encouraged, and it’s not particularly easy to do.

However, what you can do is drive to a location that’s pretty darn close. In fact, there is a built-in vantage point that encourages tourists to flock to. This requires you to drive pretty high up the mountain, albeit not all the way there. You’ll be close enough to take an Instagram-worthy shot that your followers will certainly love, and the best part is that it’s completely free to do!

If you’re not from North America, chances are you’ve dreamed of traveling to the United States at one point or another. If you’re gearing up for a trip to the States, perhaps you’re trying to decide which cities to visit. The truth is that there are countless amazing cities you can check out, so a list like this is almost impossible to make. However, if you’re looking for a basic overview, here are three North American cities that you just can’t miss.

New York City, New York

The hype is all true when it comes to New York City, for better or worse. It truly is a concrete jungle, and it’s one that you can’t take your eyes off when you’re there. From Times Square to Broadway to the Statue of Liberty, there are so many amazing things to check out in this city.

Los Angeles, California

Los Angeles also lives up to the hype, but not in the way you think. It’s important to know that you’re unlikely to be hanging out with celebrities when you get there, but there are many other attractions to see. Universal Studios is always a treat, and Six Flag’s Magic Mountain is absolutely a thrill. For a classy outdoor mall experience, go to the Grove. There are also beautiful nature hikes you can check out such as Runyon Canyon, made even better by the incredible weather.

Nashville, Tennessee

If you’re a music buff, Nashville is hands down the first place you ought to visit. Aside from all of the historical attractions, such as the Grand Ole Opry and the Johnny Cash Museum, the town square has more live music on a weekday than you’ll ever see in your entire life.

If you visited a new city but didn’t hit up the best cafe in town, did you really visit the city? All jokes aside, Los Angeles has no shortage of cafes, so even if you missed one, chances are you enjoyed another. That being said, we highly recommend a visit to L.A.’s Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. There are actually many branches of this cafe, but the one in Los Angeles is specifically best, because that’s where it started out. Here’s why Los Angeles’ Coffee Bean in a must-visit.

The Ice Blendeds Are Truly Special

You’ve had Frappuchinos from Starbucks, but Coffee Bean’s Ice Blendeds make Fraps seem almost amateur. The purity of flavor seems almost too good to be true, offering a taste that seems more professional than Starbucks. From the Mocha blend to the coffee-less Pure Chocolate, you can’t go wrong.

Get Your Work Done

Similar to Starbucks, Coffee Bean offers you the opportunity to get your work done. Simply bring your laptop, plug it into an outlet, and enjoy free Wi-Fi for as long as you like!

Great Food

If you’re there for long enough, chances are you’ll get hungry. If so, you have nothing to worry about, because Coffee Bean has incredible food, from healthy sandwiches to steak salad to jalapeno cream cheese bagels.

Echo Park

One of the oldest recreational areas in all of LA, Echo Park definitely deserves a spot on your bucket list—especially if you’re in the mood for a boating adventure.

Lake Hollywood Park

With 50 states ranging from golden beaches to the Pacific coast, there is an extraordinary amount to see and do in the US. It’s a place with endless opportunities for every type of traveler. No matter what months you plan on going, there is guaranteed something for everyone. Here are our top tips for any traveler visiting these 3 must-see destinations in America.

The Big Apple, New York City

They don’t call it the city that never sleeps for nothing, and we can guarantee you probably won’t sleep either. New York City is packed with things to do, with world-renowned shopping, outstanding broadway shows, museums, galleries, and even Central Park. It’s full of tourist attractions such as the Empire State building, Time Square, the High Line, the Statue of Liberty, and more. New York is a definite destination if it’s your first time in the US. And make sure you try a slice of pizza or a classic New York bagel while you’re there.

The Grand Canyon, Arizona

Follow the Colorado River through the desert and discover one of the world’s seven natural wonders. Take in the scenery over a drink with some friends. You can explore the canyon on foot, bike for the adrenaline junkies, or even get a bird’s eye view from a helicopter. Then end your day and top it off with some of the world’s most beautiful sunsets.

Stars of Hollywood, California

Busy and buzzing with Los Angeles legends, there is a lot to do and see, and hopefully, you might be lucky enough to spot a celebrity in person. You are guaranteed to see stars if you stroll along the Hollywood Walk of Fame and spot over 2,700 names. While you’re there, make sure to grab street some food in Los Angeles; it truly is out of this world.

From the Hollywood Walk of Fame to Santa Monica Pier, Los Angeles is home to many iconic attractions that some of its most magical places end up being overlooked. If you just want to sit back and relax during your visit to LA, its parks are a place to be, and here are five worth checking out.

Griffith Park

A visit to LA is incomplete if you don’t take a moment to bask in the views from the Griffith Observatory, but you should also explore the rest of the park surrounding it.

Grand Park

This 12-acre park opened its doors in 2012, and it added some much-needed greenery to central Los Angeles with its walking paths, botanic gardens, and fountains.

Echo Park

One of the oldest recreational areas in all of LA, Echo Park definitely deserves a spot on your bucket list—especially if you’re in the mood for a boating adventure.

Lake Hollywood Park

In addition to offering an idyllic recreational area, Lake Hollywood Park is worth the visit because it offers some of the best views of the Hollywood sign in the entire city.

Elysian Park

One of LA’s best-hidden secrets, Elysian Park is the city’s oldest and one of the largest recreational areas, and the Secret Swing is its most picture-perfect spot.
